What are your plans for Le Tour?

Bloody brilliant day!...and I spent the whole thing in front of the telly as planned. :bounce1 Would have loved to have joined wife and eldest daughter in the crowds and fan park in Ilkley but had a grand day constantly thinking 'I ride along there every week or so...this is weird!'

It was slightly odd to see the aerial shots of famous landmarks en route with French names, but I guess the Cotes de Buttertubs has a certain ring to it :)

Felt for Cav, he made a mistake and paid a high price for it, but at least Froomey finished strongly. Can't wait for tomorrow

Same here, watched on and off all day on TV. Thought been there, seen that, driven there, but it was so good to see it all live on TV.
Lot of family and friends went to see it live, but I think you got more of it on TV (der, of course you do!)
How good is Yorkshire !
I think the well touted £1m to the local economy may go up a bit when Johny Foreigner sees it.
Think the French names may stick

Enjoyed the ride (cycle :D) up to Grinton and around so much yesterday we took up a friends offer of going to start in York too this morning - well worth the 05:30 get up and even the pissing rain ride into york from their house :eek:

Like seeing the caravan yesterday it might only be a bit of tack - but it's only once in a life-time we'll see all our heroes signing on before they rode off to another amazing day.

I Thought the road closures were a bit OTT but what we've realised is it allowed so many folks to get to far away spots in complete safety - well, ignoring morons wandering around the road unaware and dogs on telescopic bloody leads. Anyway, meant folk could ride miles into no-where with no vehicle hazard and line the roads in places they otherwise probably wouldn't be so easily.

Love this sport, love the entertainment and we have absolutely bloody loved hosting this magic :thumb2

So good I had to cycle home like a loon rather than take the lift :clap

C'mon Cambridge etc - match that (I'm quietly optimistic ;) but you'll NEVER match the scenery :P)

Am I missing something...or...isn't there even a thread for 'What are your plans for le Tour' darn sarf :confused:....tour - wot tour :D I'm sure I must be mistaken :P

Well put Fritz. I think the overall plan was to ensure safety and the spectators would have the time to walk to the far flung places (and back) and thus create an amazing spectacle never seen before...either here or on the continent, size and enthusiasm wise. The Country should be proud. :beerjug:

Watched at Skipton yesterday, then went to Beamsly Hill (Bolton Abbey) today with friend up from both Suffolk and the West Country .... The tour, Yorkshire and the weather did us proud :)
 
Strines road chokka today as expected. Spent the day up on the moors above High Bradfield. What a good natured, fantastic spectacle. Everything about it made ya smile, even the tat caravan. Weather, well it just couldn't have been better, ( even the 5 minute squall of rain after the event was "proper" Yorkshire rain. Now watching the fantastic TV coverage and yea.."fekk, I ride that road..ooooh, oooh and that one , oh yea, those too.."

The Tour helicopters/whirlybird/helos...(help me here Flyer please).. fekk were they cool - synchronised flying to a T and when they appear from below the horizon across a field from you,,, well, it takes ya breath away. really was "God's country" today... and I'm Welsh . :clap
 
Tried again today & had a fantastic day :)
I rode up to Blubberhouses, managed to park (bike) just a few feet away from the A59. When the group rode by, the air being pushed forward was amazing!
A kind policeman allowed me to push the bike across the A59 (officially closed for another 3 hours) so I could get up into the Dales. Everyone I chatted to was in high spirits and it was lovely to see the efforts made by villages and farmers. A total of 255km and not a drop of the predicted rain :thumb2

Managed to get to Harewood house for the saturday start - incredible experience and never seen so many people in one place before!
 
We watched just over the bridge in masham fantastic atmosphere and organization was that impressed we decided at 11am on Sunday to head back to Sheffield parked car a tinsley and wandered over to cote de jenkin managed to stand on wall at the top different atmosphere but again superb so proud to a Yorkshire man this weekend me and the other half blubbing like little kids watching look north special late last night well done to every both who was there in any capacity
 
Went to watch at Grinton Moor on Saturday, set off in the pouring rain but it cleared up nr Catterick. Had a fantastic day out courtesy of John & Joanne Aka AA38 on here, true Gsers :thumb, thank you for looking after us .

Lovely scenic walk over the grouse moor through the heather to the top of Grinton Moor to watch the race.
 
Genuinely puzzled

I echo all the comments re the superb atmosphere, bonhomie, and fellow feeling evident wherever you spectated - but, what happened @ Cote de Buttertubs?

Watching the TV coverage I counted four occasions where the Peleton was forced to stop as it made its way to the summit, by people; obviously fans/individuals who know about the sport of road racing sans motors, crowding onto the track in such numbers that riders were unable to continue. Why?

Is this a ploy to allow the breakaway riders to extend their lead, block rival teams, get on telly, drug fuelled mayhem, crowd hysteria?

I'm genuinely puzzled - perhaps JB, (who was there, but fully clothed and blocking nobody's progress or view), could tell me why?:rob

I thought the crowds at Buttertubs were a bit OTT - but the camera view may give the wrong perspective. The narration seemed to blame the narrowing of the road at the cattle grid that caused the riders to stop.

Think that was Grinton. County widened road past cattle grid (and closed cattle grid) - but it was no wider than grid, not sure why they didn't just cover grid with grippy boards.

Think the crowds where just overwhlmingly large on narrow roads, though Buttertubs isn't that narrow...but was remarkably crowded :eek:

Jens got through fine which is all that matters - that man is a hero :bow (look closely and you can see his wheel and **** in the picture - only one I took of racing, too busy watching) A leason for all the selfie folk out there :rolleyes:

Jim - JB was at Blubberhouse Sun, busy meeting the royals at West Tanfield Saturday and is currently on a ferry to France to continue following the TdF such is his enthusiasm - I'm sure I saw him looking at bikes in the new cycle shop in Thirsk :thumb2
