WHAT BATTERIES??

In the setup menus on the Naigator you can change the type of battery in the unit. If you choose NI-CAD does it charge them up for you while the unit is running on external power?

No it doesn't - you have to re-charge them off the bike.

The option is there to adjust the voltage derived from the batteries, Zinc lead or Alkaine batteries produce 1.5volts, Nicad or NiMh only produce 1.2volts so with 6 zinc or Alkaline batts the voltage would be 9 volts with nicads or NiMh the voltage would be 7.2 volts, the electronics of the unit require 5 volts hence the option.

i keep duracell bats in mine and only use when the ign is off
or when hand held...
