digital Cameras

i've been using a Nikon Coolpix 995 for a couple of years; Great camera but v.steep learning curve and I've been into photography for 30 years. It's a bit too bulky really but worked even when dropped onto concrete from waist height, though the rear display failed i was still able to use it with the LCD on top. Many cameras don't have both. For travelling I'd get a Canon Ixus; great little camera that will fit in even a T-shirt pocket.
For bargain buys, great service and processing take a look at internetcamerasdirect.co.uk, I think they are based in Hddersfield; they even give you web space to store your pix. you can even view photos taken by the camera you are interested in via a link on their site. :Catrun

I've had a nikon coolpix 775 for about 20 months now.
Just before i left the uk it developed a fault - ie the rear lcd went black and no picture could be taken.
Due to the imminent move i didn't have time to claim on the house insurance or get it fixed in the UK so i brought it to to AUS with me.
Took it to the local nikon guy who 'tweaked' it and got it working - occasionally .
ITs too temperamental, though - you take a pic only for it not to transfer it to memory - either that or it dies mid-shoot.

To say i'm pssed off would be an understatement - just when i need it most to send pics back home to family and when i've got least money - i'm without a camera.
Also - ten years of house contents insurance - new for old- and i cancel it a week before i need it ! DOH !

So - i'd recomend NOT to buy a Nikon - it was a bit slow anyway.

The camera i'm looking to buy is either a canon G5 or an olympus 5060 - both look ROBUST, enough ( i don't think the nikon was particularly )
Both are 5MP etc , about the same features and about the same price. Canon is slightly cheaper.
Canon is slightly smaller, Oly has more feature, faster start and shoot time and is newer model.

haven't decided yet.
opinions welcome..........

I had a Fuji...til I dropped it!

I agree with the comments about Fuji, brilliant cameras but the local importer is one greedy SOB, so I bought an HP 935, just can't fault it, 21x Zoom and (as always) more features than most of us will ever need, best part for me is that I can get any bit for it from my PC shop (PC stuff got NO import tax before we went into EU).
