What do you think of this for a service price?

£226.88 inc. Vat........which includes -

Engine oil change (20W/50) with gasket and filter

Adjusting valve clearances

Replacement air filter

Throttle syncronisation

Final drive oil change

What do we think of that?

That excludes loan bike price of £22.50 each day

If i was at a 'proper' bmw dealer who sold bikes, im sure i could have a demo for the day.

I dunno, im getting a bit miffed.

That's more than my major service on my A-class Merc from a main dealer, why do bike services cost so bloody much, especially on a boxer engine

I just paid £177 but I supplied the oil. It does include collection of the bike instead of loaner though. This includes a 15% discount for labour as it was a "winter" deal. My 6K cost £310 at normal prices which is way too high so I'm doing my own from now on.

Just to add to your woes - the car dealer has put the wrong oil in your bike. BMW (motorcycles) have recently changed the spec - sorry.

I think the price was OK.

I've just paid £419 for a 24,000 mile service - but that included rear brake pads, spark plugs and brake fluid change.

While we're talking about it, has anyone had a recent service where they have used the new spec oil??

Does your bike rattle like a bag of spanners now??? I'm not being cheeky I am genuinely interested we (dealer workshop) were told to avoid fully synth for first 3 oil changes and even semi synth fell in that category

I supplied my own oil so they wouldn't have the chance to put in fully synth. Probably saved me £40 in terms of cost. At first I was told I could supply the oil but it may affect my warranty, but after reminding them that it was the same they had put in themselves 6 months previously and is as per my manual they agreed it wouldn't. So 4 litres of 20/50 mineral went in the panniers on collection.

To answer your question; I've had two services with the new spec. 10w50 and my bike is quiet. The new spec. oil went in at 18,000 miles and it's now done 24,000 and just been serviced.

My bike did not require topping up between 18,000 and 24,000. Most of these miles were touring miles through Morocco two up with the usual luggage.

I've had four 1200 and this is the best (2008) - my dealer is disappointed he can't sell me the 2010 bike.

Ah Haaaa Apologies Every time someone mentions Fully Synth here I immediately run for cover cos they have usually bought 0W somthing or 5 w something and want to put it in thier bikes It's like water FFS

But 10W50 is a Sensible viscosity now I understand I haven;t such a hang up about it now I won;t bloody pay that for it and since all my old bike are happy on mineral they'll stay on it Good Luck with the 1200!

Does this till seem fair? Are these prices for comparison including this?

£150.00 at Mersey Motorcycles last September, father, mother and son run a little old fashioned two bike garage and shop, as friendly a set up as you could wish for. The dad has a small collection of old military machines both two and four wheels.

I would have said it's in line with other BMW dealers and BMW pricing. Is it fair? Depends on your point of view and whats in your wallet.

Seems about on-par with the dealers near me.

I have however noticed that Vines have just taken 20% of their labour charge as a winter incentive. Don't know if the others are going to follow suit.
