London Mole

BMW John Clark Aberdeen -

12000 mile service quote -

£226.88 inc. Vat........which includes -

Engine oil change (20W/50) with gasket and filter

Adjusting valve clearances

Replacement air filter

Throttle syncronisation

Final drive oil change

What do we think of that?

That excludes loan bike price of £22.50 each day

If i was at a 'proper' bmw dealer who sold bikes, im sure i could have a demo for the day.

I dunno, im getting a bit miffed.:rob

you could do that your self for the price of material and a day out of your busy schedule

I will post up what JC in Aberdeen charge me tomorrow - its going in for its 12k service.

The gearbox oil and brake fluid we changed last year, so the work carried out "should" be the same as Turraloon was quoting.

Interesting to see london moles rundown there, when I had my 24k done at north oxford they charged £49:59 for 3.8 litres of 20/50
My new service delear charged £39:96 for fully synth.

All other prices similar apart from £32 pound extra for spark plug seal and rocker cover gaskets, are these replaced at each service?

Interesting? Just completed a 36000 mile service on my 1150 which included end float and valve clearances plus adjusting paralever bearings and replacing the incorrect alternator belt the Essex main dealer had put in at the 24k service and changing brake pads plus greasing things. Parts come to about £70 including oil (engine, gearbox & final drive), oil filter, alternator belt, brake pads fore and aft etc. Plus I treated myself to a Twinmax to get the pots balanced (£66).
Bike now purrs for £136 (and the twinmax can be used again and again or sold on for £50).
Plus a) I know it's had everything done properly and b) it's very satisfying to service your own bike.
Thoroughly recommended.

Deffo worth giving JC Dundee a call.
Drop it into them & do a bit of shopping in Dundee.

Fully synth.....for a boxer engine.....my arse.
Feckin ridiculous and unjustifiable from an engineering point of view.
Fully synth is for high performance turbo's and the like.

Offshore, we only use fully synth for Gas Turbines (Jet Engines) - everything else gets Mineral or Semi including high speed multi stage compressors.

Don't even think we use synth for turbo diesels.

Also, what happens if you have an engine full of synth and you need to top up the oil half way to Ulan Bator ?

Utter shoite !

Al, yes but its much more fun getting a bike / car to use, and its a good excuse for not shopping in Dundee cos the money Bev spends shopping will pay for the service !

I seem to recall that JC's in Dundee were doing a special rate winter service until end of Feb so worth a try. Give them a call but don't ask for Mr Dalzeil:augie

The JC price in Aberdeen doesn't sound too bad and certainly less hassle. To be honest all your looking for is a stamp in your book. You can do most yourself with the aid of a funnel and some spanners.

Let us know how you get on:thumb

Not much help for Turraloon as too far away :blast
But Ocean BM at Plymouth doing a lower labour price than there normal for a limited time, if that any help to any one :nenau

You wouldn't get him anyway, he's not there any more. I believe he's now at Motorrad East...

Just got home from Aberdeen - £228.19 for my 12k service consisting of:

engine oil and filter change - 10W/50 Castrol Power 1 if you are interested
final drive oil change
air filter
valve clearences
synchronising the throttle bodies

Which means the 2 x 1 litre unopened bottles of 20W/50 Castrol will remain unopened.....

I agree. If it's out of warranty do as much as you can yourself, a workshop manual and Twinmax/vacuumn gauges is money well spent.

Why is 20/50 oil suddenly out of favour? It's served my 1150 well enough for six years, plus old airheads and harley davidsons.
