Trying to take it off and cover it in wd40 to help try and diagnose why the gear idicator has gone screwy (like telling me its in 1st when Im in 5th) etc.

Been doing this for months, havent covered it in water for yonks.

Cheers,

Brian :thumb

It's a small round black plastic disc on the back of the gearbox, it sits behind the swinging arm. It's got little springs and bearings in if it's a proper oilhead and a potentiometer if it's a 1200.

If you prise off the top of the cover then it will be fecked anyway. A new ones in the region of £30+ but you will need to take the swinging arm out to fit it.

 Agree with Rob - I managed to prise the cover off mine (1150) when it was playing up = springs and little bits everywhere. Don't do it!

leave it alone, mine does it too.
to much ag to fix.
until summer that is! :D

does it have two thick cables coming out of it

Just want to know - so I can spray the crap out of it first with Wd40 before buying a new one - its an 1150 standard

Must be seasional my 1100 did it for the first time on sunday showed 1 or 0 every change then worked fine again :cockeye

My mate has an 05 ADV SE and it started doing it a couple of weeks ago. Was due a service and was going to have it done under warranty but it now working again :nenau

to follow up...

I got the sodding thing off with long nosed pliers - but had to semi-disclocate my fingers first, pinched the wire clip that fastens it to the bike, prised it off, took off the tank, found the other end of it, took that off then replaced it....bit of a mission to re-route the cable though, so took a slightly different route.

Cheers all,

Brian :D

When SPC replaced mine on the 1150, I was told that the connectors were packed with silicone grease to avoid a repeat.
