When I turn the ignition on (2006 GS1200) a small red led type light flashes once just below the clock reset button. The manual doesn't mention this at all. The bike doesn't have an alarm or immobiliser that I am aware of, does anyone know what it is?

Also my battery dies after about a week of standing (outside ), I have put a new non gel type on and that is doing the same. Any ideas? I have bought a Optimiate which isn't showing any drainage, there aren't any flashing Leds etc and it's not covered in electrical add ons (yet!).

Slightly perplexed

May be corrected here but I thought they all had immobilisers but alarms were options, on my 07 GSA the light you describe is to show the alarm/immobliser is activated (if I have armed it), never really noticed if it flashes when I havent.

yes they all have immobilisers. Mine has an alarm so flashes all the time but I imagine the flash is to let you know the immobiliser is going off or your key is accepted. Does your indicators flash at the same time?

No nothing else flashes at all. I have no immobiliser type fob, and the keys don't have a transponder attached to them as one might expect. (That I can see anyway)

No indicators flash when I insert or remove the key, and there are no continual flashes, just the one solitary flash when the key is inserted and to the ign on position.

Today I walked the bike around with a view to setting any alarm off (that may have been activated from the ign without the key in) , alas no.

doesn't sound like you have an alarm then and the transponder chip is in the key plastic, not separate so there isn't anything to see. I would go for it being the immobiliser light unless someone has a better idea.

That's correct.

If you have an alarm fitted I think (the alarm) is only armed for 48 hours then it goes into immobiliser only mode or some sort of sleep mode

Am alarm that only protects your bike for 48 hours, that ranks up there with the real dumbass stuff that get posted

the alarm doesnt just stay on for 48 hours, its battery charge dependent and the manual says you will get a minimum of 7 days before the alarm shuts down to preserve the battery for starting. If you have it garaged and use an optimate or similar it will stay on indefinitely. I have only left mine for 4 days so far and the alarm was still active. Whether it should go off at all is a matter of opinion but IMHO if you get a flat battery you don't have an alarm anyway and you then have a PITA to get the bike started again.
