Scrap Norton (unreliable and causes more problems than it fixes) and get Avast or AVG.

will i have to uninstal Norton first??? Avast is the one a few people have recomended so prob go for that,do you know if it will run ok with my McAfee firewall???

Avast? sounds a bit nautical to me, is it a pirate program?

AVG free edition for me, and Zone Alarm free edition if you want a firewall, easy to find using Google..

Wot Steve and Parky said...and YES, bin Norton asap and with extreme prejudice !

Pity someone chose to misuse one of the 'biking world's' most illustrious names for such a lame-brained interfering computer utility !!

I have the free version of AVG running all of the time.

A recent discussion about the latest Windows vulnerability pointed me towards Bitdefender. It does well in reviews and was one of the first to get a fix out for the latest big threat. Unlike the AVG free version it will not protect your system "on the fly" but you can set it to do a scan at certain times. This to me is an ideal way to verify that AVG has caught everything. The fully functional version is not costly if you like it. http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Main/view/Download-Free-Products.html

Whilst I'm at it, you can get free anti-spyware software from:
Ad-ware SE http://www.download.com/3405-8022-5153545.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
Microsoft anti-spyware http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

All the more reason not to do so

Bin Norton - search the web on how to do it properly as it doesn't uninstall itself completely using the utility provided :spitfire

Any program that doesn't do that deserves to be ignored, especially if they want £££ for it.

1) type www.google.com into your browser

2) type "removing norton" (no commas) into google

3) choose one of the many step by step guides shown

4) read it

no need to thank me :D

I'm thinking along the same lines as Avast or AVG for my second-hand laptop when it arrives, and will probably use the same one when I re-build my desktop as a home file/print server. Not sure on Server 2003 or XP Pro yet though for the desktop :nenau

All Progammes

There have been many threads here asking where can i get this and that etc.

www.bearshare.com and download the free sponsored version. Install and get everything you want.Music,Movies,Software,Games all for free.....Great.

Even get Long Way Round,Sure you have it anyway.

Dont share your files though. That will be naughty..
