what glue to repair a brake pad ?

the brake pad on my DRZ400 has come away from its backing.

got loads of meat left on it (1.5mm) so I'm going to glue it back on.

glued up a hole in the tyre of my old GSXR1000 with double bubble and it got me to Nurburgring, 15 laps and back so think I may try that.:thumb2

are they the metal sintered ones, if so try brazing them, either that or dont bother metal on metal has a much higher coefficient of friction than pad material on disc.

the extra vibration from the spokey dokeys you fitted had caused the pads to de laminate, i recomend self tappers, tie grips and some silicone sealant, they hold the power station together where i work so should be good for a lowly brake pad

what about using bathroom tiles? and grout...?

they're hard as fark and should last ages plus grout sticks to jumpers and the like... like shit to a blanket....:thumb2

Free sticky stuff available

I've got the most severe case of man flu ever in history so a good supply of phlegm is available.:D

May even be good enough to form into new brake pads:thumb2

Have you considered fitting the SLS front brake off an MZ250? :nenau
I'm thinking of this and the carbs off 4 Honda C90s for my Special K.

Next;
i need info on Magnetos and Dynamos and a 6volt conversion.

progress, eh! :rob

Ehmmmmmm Og Who da feck is gonna do this fitting you still haven;t that gearbox on the Guzzi out Yet

...

*sighs*
it's a matter of tools;
i dont have the requisite number of lump hammers, vice grips and cold chisels for the Guzzi. :augie*

*i might have got away with that.

You don't think Araldite is a good option then? :augie

Araldite or some similar epoxy resin :thumb2

It's what they use in Morocco and similar places to glue brake linings onto bus brake drums, and those things take 100 people over the Atlas passes half a dozen times a day :beerjug:

What makes people so 'Oh no you fool don't fuck about with your brakes you'll die you irresponsible twat' etc etc? :blast

It's hardly rocket science, and the manufacturers use a glue of some sort :nenau

Common sense and fuck that H&S knee jerk bollox :rob

:toungincheek

just what goes through your mind as it spits the pads out

No worries

Some Epoxy 2 pack will do it. ... As said before, they were initially glued on,probably in China!!

FFS .. Many push bikes are glued together, it may look like weld!!
And whilst we're on with glueing...don't they glue the wings on planes??

P.s
Mods ...can we make this a 'sticky' !

What? With Fanum? .....

...... not a lot :augie

:beerjug:

Oi you old scrote :rob

If one of your pads had sperated out in Mongolia, you know flippin' well that you would have used your little emergency tubes of araldite to glue it back together, or found some yak's milk to boil down and mix with some earwax or something.

And, you also know flippin' well that if it had survived the trip back, it would have still been on the pad until it had worn out :D...go on, tell me I'm wrong :green gri

We're all so hung up on Western H&S crap and dire warnings from the people trying to sell us stuff that these days, a good solid bodge using common sense (and I include checking the pads regularly for a while if they were 'fixed' like that in this common sense approach) and available equipment will do just as well, often better, than doing it 'the right' way.

Mr Turnip was obviously dangling a carrot out here, and 1.5mm may well not be worth fekking about with on what is such a cheap item to replace with new, but the principle is there......'3rd world fixes', bodges, common sense and not getting into a big flap about a compromise in fixing something.....where would innovation, eccentricity and the good old British spirit be these days if everyone just 'followed the rules' all the time :nenau

Of course it will lead to a bit of Darwinism in action, but that's a good thing :augie :thumb2

Quite frankly Superglue melts at 100 degrees and I think the epoxy in Araldite does that about the same sorta temp That's why I suggested JB-Kwik which is supposed to be safe until 400 degrees

But in simple terms if a set of pads is £20 It's probably safer just to get a set Realistically An ordinary guy probably can;t generate the heat and pressure for adhesives to work on their own there are usually protrusions thru the metal for the pads to act against

Truck n bus brake shoes are usually rivetted on And lets face it the fatality ratios of Arabic countries do not really inspire confidence
