the people saying that appear confused between a catastrophic fracture of the drive casing and the ordinary, everyday failure of the drive box bearings that are generally regarded as a service item on here :D

What was the last bike BMW made that didn't have a weak FD? Did it all go Pete Tong with the paralever or were the mono's dodgy too?

An update from the owner on FB.

Quick update - have spoken to and emailed pics to Parks BMW Motorrad East Kilbride. They've never seen anything like it apparently and have been very quick off the mark to get it investigated. They are picking up the bike for inspection this afternoon. BMW Motorrad UK have also been in touch so will keep you lot posted on progress

I think we're only hours away from someone on the ABR forum suggesting starting a petition asking for it to be discussed by Parliament they're that excited about it.

Whatever caused the failure it was of a catastrophic nature and could easily have caused a serious if not fatal accident (especially if it had been on a fast twisty road ) and as such should be fully investigated by BMW and the results made available to all dealers and owners, if only to confirm it was a one off and not due to a defective part.

Unfortunately it is more than likely that the bike will be repaired and the owner appeased by a financial incentive and the failed part will be returned to the R & D department to be examined and then disappear .

I'm going to write to my local MP. Much higher chance of getting a full explanation.:D

Indeed

Pretty rare

I am sure that BMW won't say anything unless they are required to by law.
