What happened to these?

Why are they not available anymore?

I don't think so.

Initial list price was £6k (to much IMHO), and the market was a little slow to realise how good these bikes are. Needless to say they didn;t sell well at the time....

I know i was originally put off by the price.....

I've checked dealers sites, and they're just not there any more?

Benhams in Wolverhampton have one on a 09 plate which they are using a a demonstrator, for sale at around £5500 i think:eek:, to my knowledge BMW stopped making them in about 2007 as they wernt selling:augie

Plenty of new ones in the USA.:drool

Strange how Benhams registered that bike, and used it as a demonstrator....... what are they demonstrating? There is no new stock to sell here in UK, that was the last new one!:nenau

Probably given some cash incentive by BMW to register it OR used it to make up their overall monthly registration target :nenau

Is it seriously for sale at £5500 ?

Do you want one??

As said................BMW were off the pace and priced them too high and the marketing was poor

Then people have realised they (XChallenge) are a very good dualsport platform (TT really geared up on the accessory front and pushed them harder than BMW)

Now they are pretty popular in UK/USA and Europe, but scarce and only a few new ones in USA left

UK BMW Offroad Skills are hanging onto their XChallenges for 2010 because they can't get anymore

Bit like HP2's.......................niche........... but a classic

Ex BMW Off road school bikes

Vines didnt get any ex dual sport bikes last year , I believe that the bikes were just kept on and maintained as required.I am not sure how long they can go on this way before they have to renew them though, but what with?

If the bike bias had been more off than on , I would have gone for a challenge last autumn. The XCountry is a great all rounder though.

Can't believe i have bought a classic and it ain't rusty :D
Someone on Adv site said B#W could crankup the production line easily if there was enough demand as they were low volume (an Prilia made them anyway) :nenau
Hope not as i have an appreciating classic instead of a bike that is loosing money from the minute i buy it :D

What a lovely idea. Unfortunately doesn't seem that way from where I am. My 08 XCountry is up for sale here at £3350 and only had one call so far but with an offer too low. Trade price AFAIK is about £2600. Losing money faster that in the bank:(

That said, it is a brilliant bike. Good quality bits compared to my F650GS, and other BMWs too I reckon, if that's not too controversial:augie

Cheers

But yours is an XCountry you should of bought an XChallenge :thumb

reality check

lets face it the countrys in the doo doo, no ones got any credit anymore, but good luck selling,
I would have bought it last Autumn but went the dealer route for the warranty, not needed it yet, crossed fingers.
Agree....... great bike, nice balance and riding position/comfort.

Doubt it, with BMW

Nice project...................but badly executed from a sales perspective

pretty much sums it up

With a few more years in production, a few of the niggles could have been ironed out and the bike could have been fantastic out of the factory.

Also doubt BMW will do anything with it anymore. Only possible hope to see something like them new is if Aprilia buys the rights to the design from BMW and start making it again. I guess the rights wouldn't cost much, since BMW don't want to make it anymore. It would probably be a fair bit cheaper if it came branded as "Aprilia" too.

Why are they not available anymore?

I saw BMW launch into dealers a batch of xcountry last year. They were mostly in the new yellow colour to distinguish them from the first batch of black from several years back.

Those initial batch seem to sold off quickly at around the £3k-£3.5k mark. I was tempted but went for an even cheaper albeit older 650GS for commuting.

Anyway .. I think you are slightly too large for them :D

I've been looking around on the web, seems that Scandinavia is the only region in Europe offering them for 2010

Maybe I should just get a large tin of black gloss paint and slap Apprilla right across the side in runny 6" letters. Then go and shoot myself. Or alternativly just move this whole section to the Apprilla owners site.

Is that a bit too much??!!

Nowt wrong with G650's.....................it is a supremely capable true DUALSPORT
The XChallenge is a nice bike to own and ride...................sure it's a single with it's own character, but behaves well on the road and trail alike
