What Harley should I take for a test ride?

What's your Budget?

Less then 11k - Sportster - too small for a pillion... (IMO)

11k - 14k Dyna Low Rider or Fat Bob

14k - 17k Fat Boy

17k plus Road King or Street Glide

err that's about it..

Goodness, I've not given it that much thought. At this stage it's just about taking one for a spin.
For the 1st time since I was at school I might have a little bit of spare cash and my imagination is running riot as to how I might spend it.

So far I've considered a Jaguar Xf estate, a Land Rover, a motorhome and a K1600.
This latest notion is just as a result of the e-mail firing my already over active imagination.

I'm definitely going to take a Harley for a spin though, who knows what might happen from there.

(Probably nothing).

I am back home to Cheshire in early May sans employment so will be spending some leisure early retirement time road testing anything with fuel in it that can get me out and about from A to Boozer.
Country lanes and pub lunches.
Flash the platinum card to show some interest and ask the right questions to show I have done some homework.
As long as I remember to drive/ride on the left side of the road.

(Probably fuck all).

Roll forward 3 years and depreciation wise the HD will be the better bet over the other toys listed, the Jag/LR and K1600 all depreciate like a brick off a building... the Motorhome and HD will give you a better return ( as a % of depreciation) Although Motorhomes command massive prices for basically a Caravan on a flat bed....

I popped into the VW van centre recently and a T6 4 berth Van was £52,000....... I pointed to the T6 van out side at £22,000 and a decent Caravan at £16,000 and wondered how VW could turn the sum of parts into something that's £14,000 more......

Buy what yer fucking like, listen to no one, after all you are getting on in years and may be dead soon.

If you want a HD, looking at your meagre frame I would suggest a nice low bike, like a softail, or a fat boy......

As suggested by Doris the Gorilla why not try a Wide Glide? They are so damn cool and all my friends love me for having one. :D

I love them too. My only regret is getting it in vivid black instead of "flames".

The "flames" paint schemes are the bollix. :thumb2

I've just Googled these 2 along with the Wide Glide.
The Wide Glide is not for me but I do like the Soft tail and Fat boy, not sure either look particularly pillion friendly though?

I have the Softail Heritage, the missus is good for the back, loves it, very comfortable. There are so many variations and options open to you that you cannot fail to find the right combination.
I also have an Electraglide UC, the missus loves that, but it is a pain in the fucking arse for me as it is so fucking heavy to move around, fucking hate it.....The pillion on a HD is well taken care of, it is the rider that needs to be confident and in control.

You're not kidding. I've never understood how Motorhomes cost the price they do and having just looked at EBay for used Harleys I'm equally amazed at how much they go for. I shall definitely take one for a spin but the K16 and Jaguar are looking far more appealing right now.

You need to go Classic, your money will be more secure, the new shit is just that.....Shit.

I am 5ft 8, my first Harley was a Heritage Classic, me and the wife covered over 20k on that bike, really comfortable. Two years ago I bought a CVO Road King, done around 10k on that bike. Never had an issue with the weight. Weight only really becomes an issue when you get caught out, just need to be careful. Also practice slow riding skills. Have now bought a 2014 RT as well, that does feel nimble compared to the Harley though

Get a blue one, I was loaned a blue one and it was quite nice to ride.
It didn't shoot flames out or catch fire but it seemed a nice one.
