What instead of an 800GS ? More oomph

ive been holding my breath for so long now LOL, it would be nice, detuned to maybe 90bhp and with big midrange

The big rumour is that triumph is about unleash an 800 cc tiger, one gs 800 style, and a road biasd version, would be a great bike.
Wal2 test the 650 gs before swapping your versys,it is know great advantage over the versys, you may find it easier to manage in terms of size, and weight, motorways i found he v far more comfortable, easier to over take cars, handles better on the road, wind protection far better, after one hours rideing on the 650 gs my ass is killing me,but thats my opinion, yours may be different, also the indicators will take some time to adapt to,.
I owned a versy for over three years, never had a problem, also a member of the v forum ever since it atarted, good luck.

Chippy, ive seen your name on the V forum, ive had to sell my V cos of work problems, so planning next choice, i take on board all you say about the Versys, and i agree, in its slot its pretty hard to beat, and i wouldnt be to bothered if i had to get another one, it just feels a bit juvenile/immature/basic/shallow after a years ownership and a couple of decent trips around europe, and below 40mph felt like a bit of a dumper to me, i was hoping the GS,650 or 800 would be a bit more serious for more longish trips, the Versys seat crippled me after an hour, and i had bad buffeting issues with it too, the issues have to be deeper than these to make my decision, because lots of bikes have them and they can be worked around, i thought the Versys was edging into BMWs traditional forte but didnt quite have the depth to hack it, i may well be wrong, but there must be something to the whole BMW thing other than an expensive facade, it wouldnt hold up for so long if not true , so i/ll have to risk an expensive mistake LOL to find out, so yes i will take a test ride and see how it go's

BMWs big advantage over other makes is the bikes can be given an extensive road test to see if you like it. I have taken dozens of test rides from my local dealer and they never pressurise me into buying (Allan Jefferies) Take your time and have a few rides, if you have no bike at the moment its a good way to keep bike fit.
One things for sure, as soon as you buy a bike the Triumph Tiger 675 will be launched, it will be cheaper, have all the accessories you could ever need and will get all the rave reviews.

I think dealers do this on purpose, give you a more powerfull bike as a loaner,so you enjoy the extra power more, then go back and change your bike for the bigger more powerfull bike, are you back on the 800 now,or chopped it in for 1200.

I've got a feeling the Milan bike show this year will be the time when all is revealed. ADVrider is rife with rumours on the Triumph. As well as a 750 Aprilia. The Aprilia would be an interesting one as they made the BMW X challenges.

I think most manufacturers have woken up to threat posed by the BMW 650's and 800's. Apart from Honda... I think they have lost the plot. :blast

With you there Sooty, that's a major plus for me too! I will never even consider spending hard earned wedge on a bike that I'd never ridden - you listening Yamaha!! :rob

Triumph rumours sound interesting, though last time I test rode a Triumph I had to pay for the privilege and even then they messed around so long that I only had an hour in the dark. No surprise really when I went for the BM instead:thumb

Think you may be right chippy. I still have the 800GS and a KTM 990 Adv demo booked for Tuesday. Much to my surprise I actually miss the 1200GS loan bike as it makes my 800GS now feel rather small and a bit slow. To make matters worse, when I went to collect my 800 after the service/recall a new sales guy shouted "excuse me sir, what are you doing in here". It turned out to be a friend who now works in BM bike sales - a very dangerous combination. My wish is to keep the 800 for a second year but my heart is pulling in different directions right now. Hope the wish wins this one.

Hello Mr blobby i have a Ktm 990 r version, its one hell of a bike ,very plush wp suspension..nothing ties it in knots, mega power it wheelie fun :augie.

Its a little heavy on fuel, but the smile you get from riding it you wont be bothered about that, the only down side to the Ktms is that they dont like just to toddle along .....its balls out or nothing ...well the r version anyhow, i havent rode the standard one or the 950 for that matter so i couldnt comment.
I had the 800 gs which i thought was a very competent bike in all areas but i know what you mean about a little more ummmph.

A havent heard much about suzuki vstrom 1000 , they are very underrated, bomb proof reliability , plenty grunt out of the vee twin , not bad on the old gas , and very reasonably priced, i have owned 3 of them.
There are lots of modifications for them also , suspension upgrades , power mods , exhausts and all that , but they do have a "look" which takes some getting used too.
£5k buys you a low miles gt 09 plate with all extras , another £500 you could buy a lot of goodies to make a very capable bike.

Just some thoughts and ideas, let us know how your test ride goes on the KTM

Sorry, you have passed the point of no return, Once your heart rate stops rising as you get ready for a ride out or you start to miss things your bike cannot do you just know its time to change.

Sorry Sooty09, I don't agree.

I have had two 1200GS`s which I covered 30,000 miles on in total and I changed to a 800GS and felt like how you describe inside 2 months.

I have now had my 800 for a year now and have recorded my highest annual mileage ever at 9000 (poor I know).

I am always looking at changing it, but then when I next ride it I am always reminded at how good an all rounder it is.

I currently have a fully loaded 1200GS on loan for a week or so while mine has the chain recall and a new clutch.

I am loving the midrange grunt but still think the 800 is a better road bike if you don't tour a lot.

I came on one of your runs to Whitby. I often come home from Whitby on your fab route through Aislaby.

Wal2, are you Wally from Morpeth, an active writer on the versys forum and rider of a lime green Verysy. If so I last saw you on a run out when the Versys forum were camping in your garden. I had just collected my F800gs and was running it in over the weekend. I got a bit of stick from the Versys forum when I left (My user name was Msut01) with comments about reliability etc but the bike has been 100% so far.
Hi sooty,i,m the proud owner of your old orange Versys(remember I contacted you on face book)and by coincidence your name cropped up on the Versys site as you went on a rideout with Headlem.Anyway Wal (who iv,e getting to know quite well said he knew you and recongised my reg number)So it,s you who,s turning Wal to the darkside with the BM,s.I,ve fitted the Kawa matching panniers, heated grips, rad guard&hugger.Anyway just goes to show what a small world it is and if you,re up the N-East for a rideout maybe me and a couple of mates could meet up .I,m"whiskydave"onthe V website.happy biking:)
