What is it like?

If it was me I'd be waiting for the 1290 super adventure S to come out (not sure when that'll be ... early spring??) and test them back to back.

My impression of the 1290 super adventure T (as it's now known!) is that it was a great bike but too big and Bentley continental-esque for me at the moment. I'm still up for something a little more nimble. When I retire and want to spend my weeks and months away hammering Europe, then it's the sort of thing I'd consider ... :thumb2

So no Rolls-Royce-esque Honda GL1800 GOLD wing for you then, well just yet that is! I love my '64 GS but after testing riding exact GSA bike "The Missenden Flyer" test rode recently, I liked how much more smooth it is and not as "tractor" like mine is. I just wish BMW would move up to 8-9k services intervals. 6k is so 15-20 years ago.

Ha ha ... No thanks.

Although I have to say, when ever I've followed a bloke on a goldwing, he's usually been absolutely caning it! I guess it's such an intimidating bike that yer only going to own one if yer half competent ... :nenau

At first you would start like this........

Then you decide that there is more fun to be had.....

Then you'll get to fecking old and "no longer can hold it up", so you do carry out a few mods.....

The eventually shit really hits a fan, but you still determined to go out on your "motorcycle" and you get further mods carried out.....

I think I'll be in a VW camper van or a soft top sports car long before I stoop to some of those ... :D

Ooooooh, camper van T5-T6, yes please.......

Definitely worth a test ride to see what you think - had 10 GS's over the years including the WC GS and GSA's.

Personally I prefer the standard 1190S as it's more nimble than the current 1290 SA-T so worth waiting to see what the latest 1290S is like when they come out.

Had no problems with dealers with a couple of minor warranty claims.

Back tyre was toast after 4,500 miles but got no better out of my last 1200GSA ;)

Finish/build quality IMO is good and better than the latest BMW's.

If you like the current 1290 SA - good deals to be had on new 2016 models - circa £12,500 to £13,000 :thumb

As they say proof is in the pudding..... to know what it's like, you need to eat it. So I shall give it a go but I am not holding my breath that I will end up with one. Latest design of KTM headlamp reminds me of orangutan's face. Not the best looking thing IMHO.

Your in luck then because the SA T doesn't have the new headlight. It's no different from the 2015-16 model. It doesn't get the new clocks either. You want that lot you will need to get an SA S or an SA R 1290 until 2018.

Do not worry about the headlight you don't see it when your riding, it's all about the engine, the grin factor that you so long lust for that your GS no longer provides and where as a GS will flatter a bad rider the ktm will not take prisoners .

All good if you want to ride flat out like a hooligan everywhere, but not everyone on here does. ;)

You have about the best dealer in the country with Jason at Hemel, I would take one for a test ride, its ultimately a personal decision and probably not based on any real factors, do you like it? does it give you a shit eating grin when you ride it?
To be honest the 1290 didnt for me when I rode it.

Strangely enough I find I can bimble along quite nicely on my 1190 when the mood takes me :moped:

The 1190/1290's do everything a GS can but with a bit more of a fun factor and without the flaking engine paint :augie

That's the place I'll be going to, I also know a lad who works there in their clothing department. I'll give it ago......,

Boring as fuck.

Don't be so touchy.

It doesn't take long for people to slate the GS in this section. Quite sad really.

I wouldn't say 1200GS/GSA is boring, now F700gs was borring and cramped......
