What is the best bike protection purchased for your Bike

I have just purchased a 2014 RT what would you say was you best after market or OEM maker investment in bike protection you have made? I have my bike in a little over a week's time and with winter approaching thinking about getting some crash protection.

I have just come off the Wunderlich site and they seem to have just about everything or maybe not? You experience guys can tell please. I feel like a school kid waiting for the bike to come

My experience tells me don't think about crashing , it's a mindset.

Crashes happen all year round , not just winter. Either buy protection because you feel it's the right thing to do or don't ride during crash season.

Reading it back it does sound a little negative I suppose. We'll Jayc I am an experienced rider having covered some of our continents along with being an IAM Member along with some other courses too many to mention. So let's not say negative view it has "cost effective pre-planning" . Those who know me when they see expect to see my bike so that will give a clue to me being an all weather rider. So hopefully that may answer some questions for those who think this guy thinks he's going to crash, been there done that and not again thank you

Cylinder head protection. Plenty of styles, material and costs available. Bound to have a car park drop at some time. Or just accept that they will get scratched and refurbish as and when. Film protection for panniers. Saves the boot marks when getting your leg over. Anything else are just farkles.

When I acquired my k1600 last year I had the wunderlich engine bars fitted almost straight away, we'll at the 600service and I've never regretted it ,. I have a 1150adv also and have dropped that on occasion a good few times , with the engine bars no damage , I'm talking on the side stand sinking in this mud etc as you can expect. The k though has more body work like your rt and it's expensive and the panniers get it when it rolls off the engine bars so I also had the pannier protection bars on aswell it is wide and I have to breath in a bit when filtering but it nearly always fits lol well upto now
The panniers are covered with the protective plastic to stop boot marks and scuffs etc, all the bars don't look pretty I'll admit but I use the bike all the time and it's something I don't have to think about any more , and I would really consider the headlight lense protector as I know the head lights are very steep and the rt now runs nearly the same set up as the k

Thanks for the other useful comments as I am thinking of replacement cost,when it may not even have been my fault. I have never had a bike with so much vulnerable body work and the bank is now empty after the purchase

One of those storage bubbles seem to be pretty good at avoiding any damage, keeps the rust off to, the downside is that it may be a little hard to ride, think of the tax saved though!

I recently read in the iam mag that iam car drivers are suggesting to staying in lane 2 as it's safer than moving in and out. Not a good stance especially since it's illegal. 4 driving instructors I know I wouldn't trust at a banger race, 2 of which have reversed into things with parking sensors AND a camera.

On the subject of protection, start by not buying a bike from Dick Lovett. That's a start.

On my R1200RT 2014 LC I have fitted Wunderlich front crash bars (black) bought through Nippy Normans.

I then purchased some 25mm Cypriflex garden pond hose, cut to lengths, slit longitudinally and push on and held in place by cable ties. Hose was £2.65 metre and will absorb low speed/car park drops - easily replaced. You can also tell people it really is water cooled!!
