What is the best helmet to get ????

i have seen a few reviews on here regarding helmets .. I bought a carbon fibre bell helmet about a year ago and it seems really noisy..

i am after a new helmet now ,because i am sick of wearing ear plugs... i was thinking of a series 6 BMW helmet or one of the range .. anyone had one of these...whats your opinion ?

or what is the most quietest one out there ?

No matter which lid you wear, if you give up wearing earplugs, you're daft and heading for hearing loss and possible tinnitus.

Shape of head, position on bike, length of arms, body, legs, seating position, screen ... all play their part.

Go try some, choose one that fits snugly with a colour you like .... and buy it

Good fit is more important than price ....

Schuberth are one of the quietest helmets around but are also expensive. Your still going to have to wear earplugs though or risk hearing damage.

Schuberth flip front for me, though why they mine doesnt have grooves in the lining for prescription glasses is the only gripe, however I often wear a Momo open face on my GSA when its realy warm and I am local, strangely the Momo is as quiet!

Schuberth C3 flip front for me too but with the SRC communication system.

I like the Pinlock and integral sun visor and its quiet with good ventilation but the chinbar is quite tight for me so I have to be carefull where i place the boom microphone but after a years use i must say i'm very pleased and it's the best helmet i've owned so far

Countless tests by Sharp and the German TuV Rhineland test labs have proved this to be utter bollocks.

The more expensive helmets will tend have more comfortable linings, have better visors, have sunshades that don't drop onto your nose or that retract properly, have chinstraps that don't cut across your adam's apple, don't smell unpleasant when they are new, have effective ventilation in the head and chin area, be more suitable for spectacle wearers and so on. Some have an impact on active safety.

A £500 helmet may or may not give better protection test results in the lab than a £100 helmet.
Every buyer must do their own research and reach a conclusion suitable for them and not just believe the Aria blurb or what the salesman on commission tells them.

My Arai was very noisy - now use a shoei xpirit which is lighter and much quieter. Still wear ear plugs mind

The best helmet. One that fits, better a £100 one that fits correctly than a £500 one that doesn't. Read somewhere that in 12% of fatal bike accidents the helmet has come away from the riders head.

plus a pair of Micky ear plugs, would never ride without them, one less thing to spoil concentration. Hearing damage is permanent

You haven't said which bike or screen you own. Consider a change of screen for less noise. Givi Airflow works well on the GS. If you don't like standard ear plugs get a pair custom made, any damage to your hearing is permenent!

i didnt and now have screaming tinnitus in both ears and 50% hearing loss in my left ear.

And I am only 41.

I read a dB test of various bikes and various lids - the quietest combo, strange as it may seem, was an open lid and a naked bike - all down to laminar flow me thinks
