Just curious as to the what I can expect to pay for gasoline next week in France? What grade is needed for a 1150GS?

petrol or essence in france price per litre between 1euro and 09 cents and1euro 15 cents
tends to be cheaper at Authan, Leclerce, Intermache supermarkets.
Good new is if you have credit card with new type pin code they work at Authans.24/7
Also I got an exchange rate of 1.47 euro to the pound

Right... now that we've got that out of the way, let's get the spelling right.:D .. it's Auchan and Leclerc. There's also Carrefour supermarket gasstations.

Supermarket gasstations are indeed the cheapest, since they sell at cost, trying to get customer to come over.

Autoroute stations are the most expensive.

Careful with the credit cards, down here in the Languedoc some of the unmanned 24/7 stations don't accept foreign credit cards at all.

AA petrol price comparison site

You'll generally find 2 grades of petrol (essence) on sale in French stations. Ignore the names and just look for the number 95. This is the RON (octane number) which is shown on all EU petrol pumps. Gazole is diesel!

Don't get caught out on a Sunday. Most stations will be unmanned and few accept non-French cards in the self serve pumps. You'll always find manned stations on an Autoroute. Also, I've found that there is often a manned 24/7 petrol station in cities close to the Gare SNCF (rail station).

I think K2R was converting to US gals - 3.78 litres per gallon over there, so $1.36 per litre is $5.15 per gallon

Yes, gallons, sorry about not making that clear.

Good advice about Sunday and the number 95 to look for.

Thanks all. I leave here for Paris about 5PM CST today. Will pick up my bike there and stay around Europe for about 3 months.

Thank God I spelt Intermarche right I feel a right dunce

Welllllllll, you did miss an accent, but with an English keyboard........:D

'tis OK, just wanted to ensure that Bill could find the right gas station...

Last week it seemed to vary from about €1.11 to €1.19 for a litre of unleaded 95 and a little more on the autoroute services, up to a stinging €1.25....

One small station on the N202 north of Nice was an amazing €1.45 or about $1.70 US a litre.....

Then a BP garage was advertising it at €1.05 in Nice not too far from the city centre and main railway station.... I'd already filled up round the corner of course...c'est la vie.
