It's about time a bought a new lid, but which type? I have an F800GS with off road tyres and i spend as much time riding off road as I do on road. I also take a month off each year adventure riding, again on and off road, but in hot climates (e.g. morocco earlier this year).

What is the point of the Motocross helmets? I understand the peak, but why the big chin? Is the chin for protection or for better air flow?

I like the flip top helmets because of the full face experience - especially works in hot climates.

Is there such thing as a Motocross flip top helmet with peak and sun visor?

I would also like to put bike comms in next year.

I was thinking about a System 6.

Any thoughts about what is good and WHY?

Rgrds,
Steve

Buy what you like and want.

As long as it fits properly.

been using an aria tour x for the last couple of months and really like it,, took it to italy and croatia last month no problems with heat well vented and i think the big chin helps,,, this replaced a system 5 which i found a bit heavy and noisy

I've just purchased a system 6 and only used it about 4 times:
It would seem i'm between sizes, feels slightly loose compared to my Arai Condor. Visibility doesnt seem as good, life savers mean turning the head even more. The helmet at the top of the visor seems to rest on my glasses which doesnt feel right. Chin strap is ratchet but i prefer the D ring of the Arai (will get used to it tho). Even with the flip front i still have to remove my glasses when putting it on and removing it. When the visor is opened and closed the left hand side doesnt click shut properly, you have to push on the top of the visor!
I do like the flip up though, really good when you start to get warm. The fighter pilot stylee sun visor is a really good touch. The air vent on the top seems very effective as well.
So, at the moment it seems more cons than pro's i'm afraid. Still at 350 beer tokens i'm just gonna have to get used to it :D

I might buy a white crash helmet next time round... only cos me melon got proper hot while standing at the petrol station waiting to get service

use an arai and a system 4 which I still like (bit old I know)

Be open minded

Steve

My advice is to make a list of the features you want from your lid, decide on your budget then try as many as you can. Design, function and fit need to be right as well as lightness and comfort. I found myself twice buying another helmet after trying on one that worked better for me. So the answer is to try as many as you can until one feels just right.

i run a tourx 3 most of the time and its great, if a little unpractical

just ordered a shark s900 glow, after trying it on it fitted like a glove, iots a full face not a flip but does have a handly flip down sun visor

the shell is a little large but the padding is ace and appears to be very quite on the road

havnt tired it properly yet as havent got it yet but at £160, its a good deal cheaper than most

Its a pity you cant 'test wear' one really.....Not just try it on on in the shop!

Just bought an Arai touring X3. Love it. Great helmet and a nice mix of road and motorcross looks.

I just bought a white Shoei Hornet DS :drool from Nick Marshall. :thumb
Used it to work this morning, very comfy and quieter than my TourX.

I find the TourX peak is a bit 'floppy' in the wind (oo-er Mrs!), especially crosswinds, even though it's gets cleaned and tightened regularly.

Don't think I'd have another TourX now I've tried the Shoei.

+1 for the Arai Tour X3.
I'm really impressed with the new Tour X, its much better than my old Tour X. Its quieter, the vents work better, it has a Pinlock visor and it’s comfier.:bow

Also the new Arai Chaser is a great helmet for the money.

Go on you bought a GS because you wanted to look like Ewan McGregor .. so why deny yourself.

Get the Belstaff suit he wore and the latest TX LWD edition, because you are worth it :thumb2

Eventually I would like to purchase a Hornet DS. My Tour X2 doesn't fit me too well, the Medium felt too loose and the Small is too tight at the forehead. In retrospect I should've bought a medium and a thicker inner.

How do you find the 'fit' of the DS as I've heard some say things like you have either an Arai or Shoei shaped head :nenau

What shape is your head :nenau
No good recommending anything if it doesn't fit your head
My head fits a Shoei Hornet

thats what i did :blast

:)

I had a Hornet which did an excellent job in a big off I had. I then said thanks to Shoei by buying an Arai Tour X3!!

I find the Arai a better fit and very stable at speed, the peak also does a good job in bright sunlight. I found the Hornets peak totally useless and purely cosmetic
