What made you choose the enduro box?

Having only had the 06 that I put in ageist the 2010 gsa on Friday ,for two months
I decided to get the new one with the enduro box .
I found that the standard box was a bit tall in first and now have defiantly made the right choice .There is a good bit of difference I can now drop it into first roll off the throttle and it just ticks along at a much gentler speed ,where as before it seemed to wont to just run away. It makes manouvering at low speeds a joy with out having to feather the clutch
And yes they do not sell many with the enduro box . I went to Oxford BMW two weeks ago and wonted a grey one to be told that there was only one left in the uk but it was yellow , so I had them change the panels .
Picked it up Friday at 4 pm and had it back at the shop for the first service 9am next day then rode it home to SW France:thumb

Good to hear your view on the change, and the difference, that is the exact switch I would be making.

I'd always said I would go for the enduro box, but many have said it isn't worth it...but many have said it allows a lot better slow control as you've said.

I also thought with the 2010 engine being much brisker in its excelleration whether it would be even more useful?(..or less?)

...and often wondered if having an enduro box would help or hinder the re-sale value :nenau.....or would you just forget to mention it if it did hinder it :augie

When i spoke to the dealer they sad if they sell 10 bike only one with enduro box:confused:

That almost certainly because BMW are not pre-building them for dealer supplies.

Enduro gearbox have to be ordered and with a 6 week wait for delivery. Most people will buy the one already in the showroom or available next week from BMW uk.

I think you've just hit the key to the popularity of the enduro box squarely on the head! :thumb

When I bought my GSA in April last year I ordered the enduro box, the dealer wasn't keen, I suspect because he had stock out the back with the standard box! Waited 6 weeks, glad I did, 1st on the standard is a little high(not a problem) but the enduro is 10% lower and is a good option on or off road. I had to buy blind as they didn't have a demo and I was a lttle worried the step between 1st and 2nd might be a problem, it isn't and I would recommend to anyone get the enduro gearbox.

I have the enduro gearbox GSA on order.

Because it make it easier to ride very slowly. Simple as that really.

The benefits will be found especially, when filtering very slowly fully loaded and 2-up, when negotiating up a very tight hairpin bend, when taking things slowly off road.

It costs nothing.

The amount of time spent in first gear is minimal anyway, whether on road or off road.

So it ain't a deal breaker either way really.

If I bought another GSA I would go for the Enduro box as I find normal 1st a bit tall when filtering through traffic

I also find this to be true...filtering is a constant tussle with the clutch, and was one of the reasons for thinking about it.

However the 2010 seemed a little smother in that department anyway :nenau...so is the enduro box needed now anyway.

It is a shame the dealers don't hve on as a demo, so that we can all try one if we wanted to, rather than have to try to fathom out its worth, :blast

It would be interesting to know if you went into a BMW dealer....

...did all your haggling on a new GS/GSA, crunched the figures, got your p/x agreed, and was left with your 'cost to change' printed out in front of you.....

..if you then said 'oh, I'd like an enduro box'...would that effect the deal? Because the dealer is very unlikely to have one from stock, which he'd want to get rid of, and have to order one in.

It's a non cost item, so wouldn't effect the costings.

Maybe it would be a good way of getting a discount for taking one from stock? :augie

I had the enduro 'box on mine as I was intending to use the bike off road, but as it turned out, it was ideal for town work; especially in the car park at work.

I'm asuming this was a serious question....

....though you've not got any serious answers to date :augie

If I got a new GSA, I'd seriously consider it...I think they are better if you tour with luggage..makes it easier on the clutch. And on occassions in the passes I've often smelt the smell of burning clutch as I pulled away uphill.

However when I was looking in my local dealers at the 2010 model, I was asking about the enduro gearbox...and he said 'there's no point in them, we don't sell any with them on'

I was actually hoping the demo bike had it on so I could compare the difference...but of course it didn't :blast

So I'm still none the wiser to whether to get one with or without or not??? :nenau

Exactly! I've been struggling with my 07 R1200GSA (100BHP version) in the Dolomites mountain passes last summer on standard 1st gear with my pillion passenger and over 200 litres of luggage.....see my previous message at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2208418#post2208418

I feel that I would have less of this problem had I got enduro gear. I remember the other day when I test rode a 09 GSA with enduro gear. I found the enduro gear to be stallproof even when I deliberately rode uphill at idle 1200 rpm with my R/H hand away from its throttle grip! This bike would keep chugging uphill without stalling!!! :augie

I believe enduro gear is available on 2010 GSA as a free cost factory fit option though. :thumb

So, off road only? How so? I don't buy that at all.The lower gearing should in effect be useful for all low speed manouvers.

Ok, 'completely redundant' is a bit strong, what I'm saying is that personally, I wouldn't be ordering a different gearbox just to help me filter or ride in a car park! ;)

Picked up my Enduro gearbox yesterday. Came supplied with a new Yellow 1200 GSA.

It works fine. No gap noticeable between 1st & 2nd, smoother ride at slow speeds, easier to pull away from stopped and no more slipping clutch in slow traffic.

Just as I thought it would be and well worth the zero extra cost.

If they were all built like this and you had to specify the taller gear instead, I'm sure no one would bother.

Great.

I did 35000 miles on my 07 gsa and have just done 2000 on my Dec 09 gsa.For normal every day rideing I did not notice any difference with the exception of low speed control at junctions. You know how it is , come to a junction , can I go or do I stop. I found that the enduro gearbox allows just that little bit more control/time whilst you decide if its safe to go. For a non cost option I think it is definately worth it.

Ive ordered my new 2010 gsa with a enduro box. Yes i have to wait for bike for couple of weeks, probably because i dont want abs & traction control. I do ride offroad, and not just your gravel roads, proper mud and stuff.
I went for the enduro box because sometimes you need slow control for tricky bits.
My last gsa never had the enduro box, and never really had to many problems with out it, but as its a free option so it might as well have it.

My thought is that bmw and their dealers know that 90% of their customers probably wont ever go offroad, so why build loads of bikes with the enduro box.

I'm glad I went for the Enduro gearbox too. I can't understand anyone who has ridden with one being critical.

Are there any comments (that are not positive) from someone who has owned one?

I had mine built with the enduro box for the lower ratio to help slow speed riding,no clutch slip required, and its a cool option only for the adventure:augie

Went for a test ride on a 1200 last weekend and road a without Enduro box and then with back to back and instantly decided that its worth it, living in london with traffic.

Should have seen the dealers face when I said I didnt want abs or traction crontrol, didnt want ESA, and I cannot see why anyone in their right mind would have a chrome exhaust over a stainless one !!!! you would have to be a complete idiot.
