Well lads.

I'm just after getting my 1150 as I have said in my first few posts. She is a MY00 with just over 10,000 miles on the clock.

I am told that she is fully serviced so with that milage and age what should have been done or what would I need to do to keep her right?

How often should I change the oil ect.

Thanks for any info lads.

The service interval is every 6000 with only 10k on the bike over nine years things like tyres and battery might be time expired, have a read through the font of all wisdom for more detail.

Oil every 6k. Any 20/50 or 10/40 will do.

At 10,000 nothing should have been changed by then. These engines can (and do) 400,000miles if looked after properly.

Just get it and ride :thumb

What is involved in a major service?

Didn't you get a service book with the bike? That lists all the service operations. But major service includes:

Change engine oil and filter
Change air filter
Change fuel filter (every 24k miles I think, in theory)
Change spark plugs
Valve clearances
TB balance
Gearbox and final drive oil change

Then there's things like alternator belt change, clutch and brake fluid change that aren't every major service but depend on time as well as mileage. And of course things like side stand lube and a general check over of brakes, tyres etc.

No I didn't get a service book with the bike. The first owner misplaced it and the lad I got it off didn't look for a replacement either. I know the clutch was done on her with an upgrade from motorworks and the final drive oil and engine oil was done by the last owner just before he sold her to me. So i'm happy enough with that. Just checking to make sure that all the boxes are thick with her at this stage and that there isn't something I should be looking out for. Thanks for now lads. :thumb2

clutch at 10,000 miles ????????????????????????????????????????????????????

the clutch was done after 10k

Yeah. It had been laid up for four years with the original owner when the lad I bought it off got it he said it just didn't fell right so he had it done.

Driving fine now.

Seals can go if they have an extended period of lay up so buggering the clutch. Sometimes low miles can = few jobs to do on older bikes. Service kits are available from Motobins, Motorworks etc and just use all the bits for most of a major service. Haynes should do an 1150 manual.

It's worth doing a major service on a bike with no history and sometimes on bikes with, ahem! You know what you are starting with then.

I do thats why i'm asking those with experiance what I should do. All I know is the last owner was a bike recovery guy that got this bike five years ago with only 4000 miles on the clock because the first owner didn't like it because it was to big for him and ended up leaving it in his garage for four years from only a few months oldof onwership.

So now I have it.

It has all the marking of a low milage bike in that it is mint, Not a statch and the second owner was a friend of my brothers and has owned it according to my brother in anyway since 2004 with very low milage on it. thats the only reason if bought it with out a full history.

Sounds like you got a cracking bike mate :thumb

If I were you I would just get someone you know thats reputable to give it the once over and then just drive it and keep an eye on it for the first couple of hundred miles just the same as you would do with any bike that is new to you.

Dont forget these 1150's (just like any proper BMW :augie) are a tough ol beast.

A clutch changed at 10k what a result!! musta been a rice rocket rider that figures 10k is basically the bike half way to the scrap heap.

Dont forget these 1150's can do HUGE mileage as mentioned before,10k is basically a brand new bike,100k isnt even a big mileage for one and I wouldnt hesitate buying a 100k bike as long as it was looked after half decently.

I hope you love it as much as I do mine.

Fingers crossed she is as good as she looks. I'll get the lads in joe duffys to give it a once over.

Thanks for the info and opinions lads. :aidan

Change all the fluids ( and i mean ALL the fluids) and oil filter for an early 12K service.

Job done and peace of mind for the next 6K milkes.

BRing it up to mototech near Lisburn (where I went with my 1150) or there's a new guy in Bray I think (Platinum Motorcycles or something) to have it looked over. I'd get one of them two to do the 12k service also. Duffy's will charge you €122 ex VAT per hour labour.

If it's still on the original tyres change them out.
