Just got back from a 200 mile thrash... and I'm getting 53 MPG !.... on the motorway the other day, I got 58 MPG.... well impressed if its right!.....
I would have thought driving it like mad you'd be in the low 40's, but chose what I do, I can't get it under 50 :)

Are they all the same?..

My trip around France last weekend was around 52-53mpg..happy with that

It depends how you're loaded, panniers, top box etc.

I probably average around 38, on a run 56, pottering about 66, Knockhill 28. Off road 40ish.

Empty top box, no panniers, just me on it.... but was giving it all it could do and still got 53 fast road... well impressed
obviously off road will be lower...

Sounds like a faulty fuel gauge :)

My average over 3700 km with this GSA (2300 ml) is 49.5 mpg. Best I got between two fuelings (250 miles) is 55 mpg.

With my previous GSA LC I averaged 52.2 mpg (28630 ml), with a best result of 62.6 mpg over 310 miles between two fuelings.

(all actual consumption, not BC reading)

My long term average has been about 48 mpg, actual figures measured by recording every top up and odometer reading, but I'm in Spain at the moment and seem to be getting only 40-44 ish, though mostly two-up and heavily loaded. Did quite lot of tricky mountain roads where I never got above third gear, so I guess that doesn't help.

I put Shell Optimax stuff in.. wonder if that helps?

believe this or not, in all my years of motorcycling, I have only ever looked to see if I needed petrol, old days give the tank a little shake, now the gauges are fairy accurate, but still have no idea how many miles I get to a gallon or litre, however in the van, always got more mileage with the better quality fuel, and that is a fact, supermarket cheapo stuff, was not the best.

So does anyone have a preference on fuel?

Or notice better performance / economy on a particular fuel?

Hmmmmmm...

I would personally say anything is fine except the cheapo stuff, but if you are stuck cheapo will have to do...................:rob

One of my friends works at Grangemouth, all fuel has to comply to British Standard, you are better getting fuel at a busy petrol station. Due to fuel useage, less likely to have water contamination in the tanks.

One of the bike mags did a test, possibly Performance Bike, comparing super unleaded to unleaded iirc it was within statistical error for improvement.

so if I got it 'Hill topped' (please don't turn it into a 'its all in yer mind post')... but would that better, stay the same, or reduce the MPG ?.... I know it would reduce my bank balance ;)

If, you ride same as you do at present, expect to get 3-4 mpg better. Problem is you use the extra flexibility and performance so you don't really get any better mpg.
