I have coped with renewing my brake pads & adjusting the tappets on my recently acquired 2005 1150 GSA & plan to do an oil & filter change this weekend, Recommendations for Oil filters please & where from, I enquired in Halfords who haven't the listings for bike filters so they couldn't help me, anyone can advise It would be appreciated.

sherlocks, motorworks, motobins and bmw dealers all sell oil filters.

edit: and get the new drain washers too. i think they come with a bmw filter.

And you will need an Oil filter cup wrench to get the filter out, I believe Halfords do one.:thumb2
Other peeps recommend placing a sheet of sand paper in the socket to help grab the filter.

OIL FILTERS & BMW DEALERS !

Okay thanks probably wont get it for weekend if posted, I am reluctant to use main dealers as they just stung me for £5.00 for a 12v.4 watt bulb that i later saw in my local hardware shop for £1, so they are last resorts at the mo.

halfords usually have listings for bike consumables,a plastic flip chart attached to the shelf in the motorbike section.dont know if it covers bmw"s though.

You would be surprised with service stuff. My local dealer is as cheap as Motorworks etc for filters when you take into consideration postage costs etc:thumb

Got a local Hein Gericke? They often do an Oil and Filter deal. I had a couple last year for me and a mate. They should be able to suss which filter you need, although no guarentee they'd have one in stock.

Might help if you said where you are, someone on here will then know somewhere to send you.

plenty to choose

Cheers Pekavee that gives to plenty to search for, will get busy, as a matter of interest i have telephoned my local BMW dealer still waiting a reply, don't think they can be ars**.

From memory the chart in Halfords lists the Champion C301 as being the right one - my local Halfords has a bike section. Personally I prefer to order a BMW OEM one from Motorworks (Mahle from memory). It might cost a bit more but in my case it's only once a year and I tend to buy other service items at the same time. Got the filter removal tool from the same place years ago when I had a K. It has never failed to remove the filter without any problems - then again I don't overtighten them.

BMW main dealers. The filter costs around £14 and comes with five gaskets to fit the oil sump plug and the rear diff and gearbox drain plugs.

Only pain in the ass is the fact you need a filter wrench. I bought mine from Halfords. It was the Audi car one but fits well. Cost of that was £7 last summer.

I won't be buying my oil from BMW as the recomended stuff cost me about £80 and I have learnt from that.

DO NOT USE HI FLO!!

They are cheap crap

It may do the filtering job but if you muff it up tightening too much it gets wedged in there tighter than a jocks wallet in his sporran!

But a BMW or Mahle one less than a tenner and you only change them every 6000 miles!

BMW just rang me back

Yes £14.10p from them. Thanks for the Halfords tip, they couldn't give me a part number in my local shop I am located in the Black Country between Wolves & Dudley.

I have used Hiflofiltro HF-163 many times and never ever any problems.
Now I use Champion C301 because I get it easier in the nearest car part shop.

i think sherlocks are quickest, and parts usually arrive next day.
