What on earth is going on with my Zumo?

If the map is indeed installed on your mac and its working (you can use it) you can now transfer the maps from there to the sd card, Now i do not own a mac so these instructions may differ but someone will be along to correct it if it does.

plug the unit into your mac and open basecamp, wait for the unit to sync, once it has goto maps on the tool bar and ensure city navigator europe nt 2017.10 is selected (ticked)
now select install maps, another window will open, select the destination as your memory card and click continue, next window select all the map by dragging your mouse from one corner to the other while holding left click, the maps should highlight yellow. once done click continue and install and wait, and remember to tick the boxes as my photo shows in a previous post.

it would also help if you answered the questions then i would be able to be more specific. with reference to the maps and whether they are on the mac or not, but it looks like your sorted now anyway,

you may have only selected to install to unit thats why the full mapping wont fit.

Thanks Lee - yes I was in the process of answering your questions when I realised that I had made some progress myself.

I can confirm...

I have a mac
An internet connection
Garmin Express and basecamp installed. Not sure about Mapsource (that might be a PC thing)
An 8gb micro sd card, the quicker the better. formated to fat 32,
A usb lead of the correct type.
My unit registered with garmin.
Maps downloaded them from garmin.

following my above instructions should work then, providing your sd card is sound and my instructions are in line with a mac,

Not heard of that method. Can't see it on my Mac.

As i said above i do not own or use a Mac, and also stated that it may be a different procedure with a Mac, if you have one maybe you could post the correct way of doing it on a Mac, and help the man out.

I would presume you could use map install with base amp on Mac, I believe I have seen it somewhere, I maybe should have said to use it, I just took it for granted that is what a Mac would use. Always ready and happy to be put right, it's how we learn.:beerjug:

Right thanks for that i will remember for future reference. I use it with pc and base camp for all my navs it just works and intergrates with base camp. Express is fine but can you use it to transfer a map from a Mac to a nav without downloading.

First off check you have the actual map installed and selected, to do this go to tools, settings. map, map info, ensure there is a tick in both boxes, it should read something like cn europe nt 2017.10 and cn europe nt 2017.10 3d, depending on maps installed. if thats ok check software update and also check the sd card for errors.
,

+1, cheek you have the maps selected in the settings area of the Zumo

Also Garmin Express works fine with a Mac, just reformat the card, insert it into the Zumo and install the map from Express. From here you might find that you don't have the mapping detail when you zoom right into a built up area, go to settings/map/installed maps and you should see a check mark in the box next to the map description, if not enter it and then recheck the zoom on a built up area again = you should see the detail.

If you want to check that the maps are on the card, connect it to your Mac, fire up base camp and you should see be able to use the Zumo as a source of the map (can't quite remember how but it's fairly self evident)

Thanks for all the help folks. I've got it working, but I'm not 100% sure how. When I work it out I'll update this thread with what I have learned.

Can you tell me if express will load the map from base camp on a Mac or does it have to download it from harming site and then you set it to download to the nav or Mac.

BaseCamp is just Garmin's route planning software, it uses your installed maps either from your computer or device.

I did know that express could install maps using the download from garmin using a PC, I was unsure with a Mac, what was confusing me, was the fact everyone was saying use express to install maps when in reality there is no need, once you have them on your PCs or Mac, why would you waste bandwidth and time doing that, he has the maps already, now I am uncertain if map install will work with a Mac, but I have seen it mentioned, it would be quicker and easier to do it this way, if it did work.
The instructions I gave would work if map install was installed and worked with a Mac, maybe someone will confirm.

https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3825 map instal for mac so i guess it must work.

using this method would be a good way of putting maps on a card if it went faulty when you were away, as long as you had your laptop or MacBook you could re install the maps onto a new card and not have to download them again using some snail paced internet connection.

Just my thoughts on it.

If you want full Europe mapping, try a bigger SD card. Mine only gives me the option of installing parts of Europe if I have a small card in.
