Caja Sahels is what he means......looking at Panniers for my GSA too.

So far I have found:

Motobins - Hepco and becker Gobi's Pannier/ Top Box rig at £812;

Motobins Hepco and Becker Exclusive Pannier/ Top Box rig at £937;

BMW Aluminium Pannier and Top Box rig at £1013;

Touratech Zeg system at £922 plus locks!

and £900 for the Caja Sahels.

Will be keeping tabs on this post for help and comments on what you all think as naturally you cannot view all before buying......anyone with Photos who could send to me to view would be useful.

Thanks Jerome

Thanks for all your helpful feedback. I am still unsure whether I should go for the ADV alluminium panniers which look the part and the top loading is a big advantage in my view, or whether to go for the more sensible GS panniers which somewhat lack the kick-ass factor but would be much better in traffic.

Decisions, decisons,...

Here's 2 pictures of a GSA with standard GS panniers somebody asked for earlier.

However I can say from experience they don't take as much of a bang as the aluminium ones:D

Just to add to the Choices :
Here are My standard Panniers and my City Bags.
The Differance is 1" . But for city use its No 1.
Two Birds , one stone , the Butch "Kick Ass" of Top Loading alluminium
panniers and the City Width.

It really depends on how much value you put on street cred / appearance. To many people this does matter and they will choose the aluminium panniers for that "long way round look". If on the other hand you want practical luggage and arent going miles off road / to Timbuktu, then the vario panniers make rather cheaper sense.

Mind you, a GS doesnt make sense anyway - its an emotional buy. So dont despise the emotional choice of luggage - if you want ally, go for it! Just dont try nto convince yourself it is the most economic / sensible choice

I think the BMW Aluminium Pannier and Top Box rig is even more expensive:-
Top Case Bracket & Locks - £352-22
2 x Side Panniers & Locks - £568-28
Pannier Fastenings - £195-00
Total £1115-50:nenau

Cheers Phil...that was the cheapest I found - but the supplier of my bike quoted the same as you.....

I have found the Vario system will be around £900 as the GSA requires the same mounting bracket as the GS has as standard!!

Once you have decided on what you want do hunt around several dealers - go north and south for the best price - it does vary between dealers despite them being standard BMW equipment!!

I myself am now torn between Caja Sahel - but this will mean slight modification to the rear indicators; or the Ali BMW versions!!

decisions, decisions.....:nenau

Python,
I agree totally - the Caja Sahels are cheaper & a lot more robust than the BMW panniers. At this time of year with salt on the roads the BMW panniers will be much harder to keep clean.
I bore all this in mind but still went for the full £1115-50 of BMW luggage:blast
I hopefully pick it all up in Glasgow with my new 12GSA on March 2nd.:D

As long as they're big and aluminium - who cares? :aidan

Mine are MMs

Hi there
I am going to collect my 1200 GSA in 2 weeks time and want to fit panniers. The problem is I don't know whether I should put on the adventure panniers, the standard GS panniers or something else.

Basically, I need a solution that is practical and looks good. I like the idea of the GS panniers which are extendable but wanted to check with the experts here whether there isn't a better solution out there.

Many thanks!
Markus

If he's still doing them Caveman's (Alpos) panniers are good value and the mounting frames quickly detachable leaving only small brackets visible. With waterproof inners as well I think they were c £400

Everyone who has seen my Jesse Odyssey panniers loves them. Had them on a 1200GS and the 1200GSA. Very strong and quick to fit and remove when necessary. Bike looks good without them: ie the rails are not too obvious. They are also powder coated, so no black luggage. Inner bags are available for your possessions. Narrow but hold 108 litres. Some people have said that you can touch them down - you can if you're fat (like me) and your bike is loaded up, but the footrest is first and beginning to fold up. One may ask why would you be riding like this with luggage? and this is not an unreasonable question.
Find them at http://www.kiwibob.de

I've just sold one of my cars so I can afford some ally cases.

A pair of Alpos 41 litre ones with mounting kits and locks comes to £430.97 through Bykebitz.co.uk.

Touratech UK are charging £549.88 for a set of Zega cases.

The exchange rate is so bad at the moment that if I had a set of cases sent to my French address from TT France, it'd still cost me £527.

Are Zega cases worth £120 more than Alpos ones?

(I emailed Caja Sahal a few weeks ago to ask for a price, but have never had a response. Metal Mule ones are over £1,100!)
