What screen setup?

Howdy all.

I'm thinking of changing my screen setup and wanted some feedback first based on your experience.

I currently have an 1150GS with adv parts on it.
Do I:-

a) stay with the standard screen?
b) standard screen and tobinators?
c) ADV screen (though I think I need tobs for this to fit? - not sure)
d) ADV screen with tobs (if I'm wrong about point 'c')
e) something else (but bear in mind I'm not rich )

I get battered by the wind if I sit up straight at motorway speeds or it's anything other than a calm, wind free day.
I'm only 5'9" but find I am bent forward to keep my head down a bit (not for anything else mind!) to reduce the wind effect.

What are your experiences based on this?

I purchased an MRA Vario screen from Jaws of this parish for same bike....
made all the difference for me.

On my 04 ADV I have the big barn door of a Cee Bailey... I'm 6'3 and can ride on the motorway with my visor up perfectly fine (not that I do but I leave it just under half way open). No buffeting or anything like I had with the stock gsa screen. I think I got it on here last year for around 90 quid posted and I think it was new. Currently looking for a mra for the 1100 to stop some of the wind blast though the tiny screen which is standard means there is lots of clean air around your head and shoulders.

You can have look at mine i am only up the road from you i have got a mra screen and tobinaters.

I found the MRA screen makes a big difference in buffeting. The split in the middle seems to be key. Once set up, however, I rarely change it.

Tobinators/Adv Screen?

I have the above. About £130 kit for Tob from Nippy Normans. Made a real difference for me and I'm 6ft. A fair bit of adjustability and improves buffeting noise no end. I haven't tried MRA but heard good reports.

Hi, I also recommend the MRA Vario-screen. Got mine from HPS Bike accesories. Much better than the adventure screen on my standard GS.

I have the ADV screen with a TT lip and still get a bit off buffetting but it is a m/bike after all

XBoxSteve, I am 5'9" and get no buffeting at 80-95mph. I'll try to post a pic of the screen I have on the bike; it's a taller one, tinted, but I can't tell who made it. It may be fairly generic make like Skidmarx.

Fwiw, I have a gel seat, set on low (840?).

I'm 6'3 and get no wind buffetting... which is why I wanted to change the original one. I can drive at 85mph with my visor fully up... Now I wouldn't advise this as you could get bugs in your eyes etc. but the fact that I could do so (like when you want to scratch your nose) should illustrate the difference between the original GSA screen and the barn door of a cee bailey. If you fancy trying to come down to devon! Oh yeah,,, much quieter though I can only notice the difference when I wear my s1 pro; with my HJC i can't tell the difference in noise as either way its very loud.

I'm sitting in a nice breeze.. which I like. and still have no buffeting. I'm 6'7 in my boots and the seat on my bike is a smidge over 3" higher than standard. (a slightly modified TT xxh)

Obviously being so tall it's practically impossible to find a screen that allows me to sit in 'still air' - but as I say the breeze I do sit in is not unpleasant nor hard work at my normal top speed an indicated 85mph.

I agree, fwiw. I wouldn't want to turn my GS into a cruiser style windjammer. It has to feel like a motorcycle, after all.

One of the reasons I like the stability on sweepers (and the lazy throttle) is that it feels good to slide toward the tank, prepare to counter-steer, and fire it out of a corner. You need a bit of healthy discomfort to get a buzz from that

But I still say the buffeting is OK at 80+, at least for me..

I bought a second hand XXH sport seat from Ebay... no-one else bid on it oddly enough so I got it for a quarter the price. The original owner had it recovered so it lost the nasty Touratech branding from the side. It was a lucky find.. the price of a new TT sport seat is Horrendous. £413

its a double seat.. one piece - a little like the seat on the Adventure.

For my trip in June.. because I think I will prefer the pillion area 'flat' for the Ortlieb. I'll be taking the original front seat to Tony Archer and have it built up... maybe a touch higher (if feasible) than the TT. ( I can still get both feet flat on the ground)

A higher seat seemed a better solution than lowering the pegs. I don't like the idea of that ONE BIT.

Took a little while.. maybe a week or so to get used to the new seat.. straight off it felt more like a perch - thought I had made a big mistake.. but that feeling soon vanished. Probably the best thing I've bought for the bike thus far. My legs love it.

I also raised the bars.. they could perhaps do with being higher still.. but that would involve new brake lines.. and the need isn't that great.

Once I have the original seat built up and on the bike I'll do a post about it.

What size is yours?
I noticed there are 2 heights for the adventure screen Cee Bailey section of Sporttouring and also a very aesthetically pleasing Adventurio at a lower price. So should i get the Cee or the MRA?Hmm.
