I have decided that now really is the time for me to part with my 650GS twin, I have loved owning it but I have decided that I fancy something with a little more power and after a recent shock bill from the Motorrad Garage something that I feel I can maintain for cheaper. I have my eye on a Kawasaki Versys. Both my wife and I absolutely loved it. This year shall see a lot more 2 up riding as we have a few nice trips planned and we both as from feb work at the same place and plan to take the bike to work.

So, one owner from enw 48,000 miles, paint missing from the front forks and engine, full BMW service history and just had her 48k service, that a valve check and new break fluid.

Won't come with the luggage as I shall use that on the next bike but what you see will stay on the bike.

The long list of bad things,

Needs a new clutch and cable, possibly more stuff BMW quoted £500 pounds

both front and rear wheel bearings need doing

radiator cooling fan is partly seized and is advised to fit new £200 BMW dealer price

head bearings to be done under warranty

Front tyre worn to 2.5mm

chain and sprocket showing slight hocking

heated grips worn, one whole exposing element

Whats she worth? haven't a clue on what price to suggest? Would anyone be interested? To someone that can carry out the work themselves it could be a great bike. She has never let me down and still running sweet after 48k

Suggestions/ abuse welcome! Cash would also be gratefully received:D:D:D!

Get away from the main dealer network. Get some reansable quotes £500 for a new clutch? I think you can do a lot better than that. It dosent even need a specialist just a good honest indapent who can do the work at a much better price. Why does it need a clutch? Is it slipping maby just a cabel needed to sort it. Do some homework. JJH

Confident that I can get the work done a lot cheaper, but fancy changing bikes so wondered if anyone would take it on with a little bit of work needing doing!

First registered in 2009!

Would be up for a swap and cash on the screen depending What screen you have?

I paid 250 for this about a year back I'm sure we can work something out!

Ok, so is the stund silence meaning people wouldn't take it on?

I was thinking that 3K is a fair price? Bike is a 2009 reg, with 48,000 miles on. Just had a service and is running very well and once the work has been done it will be a lovely bike! Surely somebody wants to express an opinion, you lot aren't normally this shy!!!!!!!!!:hide

you are looking for an opinion so here goes. selling the bike with the amount of work you say is required is going to hurt your pocket - simple. either fix it up and sell it as mint with quite high miles or take a hit. Someone looking at your lovely bike with the issues you have mentioned is bound to ask what else? I am not in the market for a bike but if i was and I was thinking of your machine I would be trying to buy it as a fixer up not a well maintained machine. So I would not be offering top price. In fact I would offer less than the perceived value to cushion against any unforceen extra work that might show up while doing the jobs. Now looking at the pictures and reading the posts I think you are not doing the bike justice if you want to get the best price for it. normally I would not be so forthcoming BUT you did ask twice. JJH

Thanks that's exssctly the response I'm after, I have no idea what price is right for this? Don't mind taking a hit on the price so there is plenty of money in the kittie for someone to mod it! Just wondering if I could get more than the dealer offered in part ex!

theres an 08 on MCN for sale.....less than 6k miles for £3900, mint condition.............so possibly get that for £3750 private....use that as a guide

but if I had £3500 to spend , why would I buy yours as opposed to something that needs no work, and has much lower miles

if I was looking, I could do all the work myself.....but i'd be looking at paying about 2k tbh ....the most serious issue is the clutch...may help if you knew exactly what was wrong

other than the clutch...all the other stuff is fair wear and tear for 48000 miles, and not hard to put right, pity you couldn't do it yourself

sorry to be blunt,,,,,,

I have to agree with Wal 2 above. £2000 with the faults you describe would be appropriate.

Just curious but how bad was the shock bill from the main dealer ?

Do you think you will miss things on the Versys ? ( economy , heated grips , bmw "identity ?" ) I think you will find the Versys a bit bland .... tread carefully .

Thanks guys, blunt is what I was after! :D

2k sounds fair and gives me a little more in the deposit kittie! So i may well list it in the for sale section. The clutch is slipping under high revs and hard to get into nuetral. Been advised that it could just be the cable.

BMW Motorrad prices is around £1200, can get the work done for cheaper else where but after 5 years and 48,000 miles fancy a change. Also a little bored of endlessly changing bearings on my bike.

The Kawasaki is a fantastic bike, took one out Saturday just gone. I certianly will miss the mpg but the Kawasaki has a very versitle engine with a great spread of power. Also has heated grips! As for the brand thing, I am
Taking a month to make my decision so I don't regret whatever I decided to do.

Thanks for all the comments guys, unfortantey my bike was stolen today so all bets are off at the moment.

Thanks guys for your input, there is a thread with my bike details on it so if you can keep an eye out that would be great!

Dave I'm gutted for you, I'm sure that isn't the way you wanted to end your relationship with that bike. It's an ill wind and all that but still a bummer.
