I'm in the market for a new tent and wanted peoples opinions on what they thought might be the best tent to take on a motorcycle touring holiday!
There's two of us, (SHMBO and myself) though it'd probably be better for us to go for a three birth as we're not the smallest people in the world and we want a bit of space around us.
We usually camp 2-3 times a year at least and currently use a Vango 2 person, which has been ok but nowhere near perfect. We're looking for something that will be suitable for the cold and windy conditions of northern europe in the spring or autumn through to hot and sunny summertime conditions, full of mosquitos in southern europe!
A couple of tents have caught our eyes, both tunnel tents, the Wolf 3000 and the Jack Wolfskin Tundra III, though I'm not 100% sold on the 'tunnel tent' idea due to the limited height! Height is an important issue as we can be in it for a few hours in the evening (apart from sleeping), if the weathers bad and with 'tunnel tents' they all tend to be around 1 metre high.
We often do our own cooking so a large sheltered porch design would be good, along with storage space away from the sleeping area.
Weight is not so much of an issue as we ride seperate bikes, so we can run the packed tent over the passenger seat and even split the contents if neccessary, ie poles and pegs etc.
Price wise, we'd be looking up to and around 300 euros (about £200), though we'd be willing to spend a little more if there's something just too good a deal out there! It's got to last a good ten years though, for that money :D !
Hope, no, I'm SURE you can help us ;)

Hi, I kind of agree with you, I have a tunnel tent which has a very small porch area and if you are trying to do anything other than sleep in it it becomes a bit of a contortion act! However on the plus side its small, you dont get it blowing away, and if the weather is that bad I go to the nearest pub/cafe anyway!:D

Tents

have a look at

www.traveldri-plus.co.uk

Ajungilak link. They test all sorts of gear for motorcycling and are keen bikers themselves.
They attended Princetown last year and I have purchased products from them myself.

Go for the Quasar from Terra Nova ( Wild country). Brill tent, never fails and they use them on the Everest camps....beat that. the trouble with tents is that people pay a £100 and expect the best. ifr a guy told you he could copy the GS for £5000 brand new you would know he is talking bollocks. Give Cotswold a Ring and ask them for some advice if your pockets do not stretch to a Quasar. Robens are also very good and their X3HT is a good starting point. The Fortress is also very good. Vaude Space K2 is ok but you pays your money and takes your chances. Both by Tents TRISAR and QUASAR have been all over the wolrd..Iceland. China, Africa, America, NZ, Scotland, Ireland etcetc. Been in the Alps, Desserts of Nevada as well as last years Ireland trip and that was bloody wet. They are both perfect, 12 years old and do not leak ever. Both ate by Wild Country that now trade as Terra Nova.

If you have a way of getting them delivered to someone in the USA try these guys www.campmor.com as they have North Face tents from $90 USD. But they do only deliver to the US and Canada.
