What the 17mm spanner for in the downsized toolkit?

The 2 tools on the left are to adjust the spring preload on the front suspension.
The screwdriver tools on the right are for damping adjustment on the rear suspension.

But what the... is the 17mm open ended spanner in the middle for???

Bloody hell! Is that all you get with a new GS??
The 17mm spanner in my kit is used to turn the box spanner for getting the axle out of the front wheel.

They are? The tool second from left is for the oil filler cap isn't it

Nope the oil filler cap tool isn't pictured, hard to describe but its made of plastic about 3in's long. The one 2nd from left is for the spring preload.

Your correct, the oil filler tool is not pictured because thats under the seat in the bike, I cant see the point in carrying the "toolkit" around as once the front preload and damping is setup, your able to leave it back at home.
Mind you, its easy to borrow a screwdriver for the rear damping and the bikes big wheel for rear preload is handy.

And thanks to previous reply, the mystery is solved, the 17mm spanner fits the mirror mountings. :)

:o Well, it can be used for the oil filler cap :o

the "spring preload tool" (second from the left) can be used for the oil filler cap; it works fine but be careful as the cap is in plastic

See... dont you all just wish you'd bought one earlier :D

I was surprised I got any tools with my GS - I thought you would just get the BMW assist number and some advice on mobile phone coverage.....
