What to do with an old collector box

Hi,

have just replaced my old collector box with a y peice on my 04 1150gsa and am wondering what to do with spare part. I'm aware that it's got a layer of platinum in it to act as the catalytic converter and given current metal prices, this make be worth something.

Out of interest, what do others do ie. keep it, recycle or sell it?

AFAIK, but then i know little
the amount of precious metal is not worth recovering out of just one 'box.

But i think at least a few people have gutted the thing /welded it back together and refitted it, claiming an improvement over stock.
Worth a try i'd have thought.

Stick it in the loft for refitting if you want to sell the bike.
Then sell the "Y" piece (a desirable item) seperately.
