Evening fellas, just wondering which parts of the GS12 are most susceptible to corrosion and what to watch for? picking mine up either this week or next when it arrives so I'll get busy with the ACF50 if needed...cheers

My bike is 6 years old, has covered 70k km and has no noticable corrosion issues. Where I live we dont have a winter, but get constant rain. I clean her once a month, just with water and a car shampoo, never use polish of chrome cleaner.

As its now summer you probably wont need ACF50 till winter. Just keep her clean.

Never had any corrosion issues on any of my bikes and I ride all year.

I never put them away with salt on them and give them a thorough clean and polish twice a year.

Steve.

Cheers guys, I know how to clean a bike :JB

Was asking if the GS had any problem areas that's all? having always had jap sport bikes that's what I'm used to build quality wise, never had any BMW's , so do cylinder heads corrode particularly etc etc... Paint quality, finish etc?

Many Thanks..

In order to comply with UE rules and general green policy BMW went away from solvent based paints a few years ago, this is an issue as corrosion resistance is not as good. Some 1200's have had issues with the altenator belt cover area coroding, but I havent. cylenders heads dont corrode, but they do get scratched in a fall, best to protech with covers and crash bars.

In the past BMW has definately been a quality product, it still is but Honda are definately up there too. BMW is still well ahead of the other jap brands though, at least from what I've seen. Difficult to beat an onda...

You might well find there's still some residual salt on the roads. I recommend spraying everything but the plastic parts and the brake discs with FS 365 at regular intervals.

ditto above, just watch the winter grime.
I came from jap sports bikes for many years - only had bmw for past 5 year and I can say hand on heart that the honda sh*ts on bmw for finish quality.
Didnt have one corrosion issue in 5 years with my previous VTR (used all year round just like my BM) nor with my ZXR prior to that.

Saying that, i wouldnt go back! Adds to the charm a bit of corrosion and poor battery performance it does... :D
