So I signed up yesterday and have been made to feel very welcome. As I said in my introductory post, I don't yet own my GS. I'll be trading in (or selling privately) my 1200 bandit some time early next year and reckon I'll have near £5,000 to put towards a bike.

Question, for £5k what can I get? I'm 6'6" with a 35" leg and around 26st so have no worries about size and weight of the bike!

So, mint GS1100, GS1150 with all the goodies, or higher mileage GS1200? What would you go for? I've not done much off roading (had a dabble in trials riding whist at university some 10 years ago) but when I get it I plan to take it on the slippy stuff.

Personally I would go for the best 1150 I could find for the price, and spend the rest on petrol :D

What would I have for 5 grand?

Well I'd probably buy lots of cheap booze, some dirty women by the hour and a shit load of drugs.

The rest, I'd waste :)

On a serious note though, im new to the beemers and im 6"3 and find the 1200gs a cracking bike for me size it would suit you fine Guesty...

Try and find a KTM 950 Superenduro.Perfect for you !!

There are plenty of bikes about for sale try eBay a few lurking bellow £4k at mo or maybe get a winter bargain, good around Xmas time or when someone needs to pay bills in jan  shift your bandit ASAP

For 5k you'd get a really really nice 1150GSA, with metal luggage and a few farkles.

I'm 6' 4" and not far off your weight (though it's coming off at the moment :D) and mine is the PERFECT bike for me :thumb2

I'd agree with that (except the 26 stone :) ) - just done 1000 miles on mine & it'll do all that you want, whatever the weather or roads

No drama

So I signed up yesterday....
Purely out of interest here, how did you sign up? Somehow you managed to do so without answering any of the registration questions.... even the compulsory ones  :nenau

Eek... I'm 6'8" and 19 stone... Makes me feel quite svelte!!!

Oh, and I've owned an 1150 and a 1200 been very comfy on both!!

I signed up via Tapatalk an android app on my phone. I'll be a good boy and log in via a pc to provide my details. Also need to subscribe to get my hands on the for sale section!
