Hasn't been running right for a while, but on Saturday morning, on way to Somerset for family 'do', it suddenly stopped firing on LHS......no major bang, crunchy metal noises or anything, just wasn't firing.....

The fuel pump had been making a louder noise than usual for a few days, so I had my fingers crossed that it may have got blocked and that this 'non firing' may have been related to that, but the injector was squirting fine.

Carol Nash got a recovery van (S.O.S) out to us in less than 25 mins, so we were impressed with that, but any hope of s less serious problem went south when i took the plug out a few mins ago :tears

Haven't taken it any further than this....but i'm not a happy bunny :tears

Ah well......could have been a lot worse I guess...we were doing 85ish on the A12, two up, so a nice gentle internal munching was preferable to a sudden, wheel stopping seizure I guess

Eeeek......:eek

That don`t look too happy either mate. :(

Is it the correct plug ?
It looks like there was impact distortion to the end of the thread as if it was protruding into the combustion chamber...and got clouted..as if it was a long reach plug where it shouldn`t have been.
Maybe it`s just the camera angle, but it made me think.

Ouch - that looks bad.

As Tarka says - looks like impact damage rather than detonation. I've a nasty feeling you may find piston / valve damage to go with that when you pull the head :(

bloody new fangled 1150's...should stick with the 1100. :rob

:hide

i'm sure a freindly londoner can fix it though

Solution: Velocette LE

On a Velcoette LE (A horizontally opposed twin), such things are impossible, but so also is exceeding 55mph!

Myke

That doesn’t look good at all:(

Very impressed that you managed to hit 85mph on the A12 though:)

Yikes !!! One ford too many methinks.... :(
Just pop the hoover nozzle in there - suck the bits out and shove in a new spark plug. You'll make it to Peru and back - no problem. :ChrisKelly

So, here we go. The damage.

Two exhaust valves have dissappeared, perhaps vapourised. And left lots of damage behind.

So we're looking for a L/H 1150 twin spark cylinder head, piston and barrel.

Anyone got any - i've no 1150 twin spark engine parts.

Pictures were taken on my phone.

:eek:yikes:tears

I hadn't seen this thread before. Fanum, I hope you get it sorted soon and it's certainly in the best hands.

Steptoe - where have all the exhaust valve fragments gone? Is there a bunch of shrapnel in the cat/y-piece?

Steptoe, as a matter of interest, how do you think the valves got wrecked?

Any problems with the cams or chains?

Ta.

Ouch!! At least the plug was the right length though:augie

'kin ell - that's horrific.

I've never seen / heard of both exhaust valves going together?! - I imagine the heads got battered into small enough pieces to get blown down the exhaust port.

Hope someone can come up with some parts and you get sorted Bill / Neil.

Just wondering, how's the other pot look? It would be a shame to fix the LH side and for the right to suffer problems soon after.
