What's a fair price?

I've been lurking on the side lines...

A friend of mine is selling his 1200Gs and I feel this unrestrainable urge to buy it. Question is what is a fair price? It's a 1200GS, yellow, July 05, heated grips, non ABS. Oh and it's low mileage. 600 miles sort of low mileage  Heated garage, constantly hooked up to an Optimate. To be fair he's got eleven others to choose from...

So what's it worth? The low spec plus low mileage make it difficult to benchmark. I can't immediately spot anything closely resembling it on eBay or Autotrader. Anybody out there with a trade guide that could help please?

Thanks

Mike

Warranty's run out, so any of the normal foibles may still have to be dealt with at the buyer's expense.

If you are thinking about buying it - take it to a BMW dealer and see how much they will offer on PX - then offer him the same price. :thumb2

Old model now sir. Probably worth less than you expect even given the low mileage. Try a search on Autotrader Bikes & MCN websites as there are lots of 2005 vintage GS about.

You can always buy a mechanical breakdown warranty via Warranty Works or Warranty Direct to provide some peace of mind against anything major failing in the first year of ownership. Budget a couple of hundred £'s warranty and adjust your offer accordingly.

Probably also worth getting the bike fluids changed as it would appear to have been standing for a while & may not even have had its first service.

friend of mine just traded in an 05 non abs model. Yellow too.
The dealer gave him £6500 for it but it did have a full set of vario luggage , streetpilot 111 satnav and fender extender.

So probably worth about 5500 . however it had done 11000 miles.

Hope this helps. i suggest its worth about £5000 to £5500

Hi Mike,

I have just bought an 05 12GS but it is damaged so cannot compare with yours. I managed to 'get my hands on' Glass's guide for Dec 07, and it only quotes values for the ABS option, and for a mileage of 11K, a 12GS is worth Glass trade 5950, Glass retail 7375. They quote that their trade price is not the p/x price, but most dealers use it as such. Also the retail is pretty close, I often see bikes in main dealers for that sort of money. Best advice I could give you, is that any bike is what you are prepared to pay, and if you are happy-then so be it!!

Help the man out someone?

Unbelievable. the guy gets one response with some ball park numbers. What did the rest of you owners on here do? Sprinkle fairy dust in your garage and hey presto there was one for free in your garage the next morning?

You can't all be on bmw' payroll?

Gone and done it...

Well I did strike a deal - and I collect it on Saturday. Be prepared for a whole slew of "how does that work", "what's the best..." etc.

In fact I feel one that's clothing related coming on now. Wish me luck!

Congrats - enjoy :thumb2

I would suggest getting to know your local dealer. I have an 05 GS and had a few issues: three warped discs, a new front wheel, clutch seal. These were all dealt with under warranty.

Obviously yours is now out of warranty so you'll either have to pay, or try to get things fixed as goodwill by the dealer:thumb
