Brouht a new laptop with 140Gig hard drive

I've loaded 16 Gig of music yet the hard drive is showing only 89 Gig space left.

Now the funny thing is I'm sure there was around 96Gig last night.... it's as though my hard drive is filling p o it's own!

I'm running Vista

Cheers

Hard drive space doesn't equal usable storage space. Vista and all the other programmes will have eaten a big chunk of the 140gb :(

Tried removing the music and seeing what the uesable space really is?

Vista also adds extra "drives" that are part of the main hard drive, best add these up as well.

Thanks...

If I look at the files on the Hdrive it only show's my 16Gig and a few other odds and sods.

It does seem to be using more and more space though even though I'm adding nothing! I'm pretty sure it's gone from 39% used to 47% in a few days witout me down loading anything

140GB hard drive will not give you 140GB of space in the first place. after formatting, it will probably be about 134ish even before Vista is loaded. that must take a fair whack too.

Check the amount of disk space set aside for storing Temporary Internet files, and I think you'll find that it is set to at least a gig or two for each person with a separate user account when in fact all you really need 50mb:thumb2,

Could be System Restore that is eating up the space

Window$ uses around 8Gb for System Restore  This equals around 3 months worth of back-ups whichin turn slows your system down a treat :blast Reduce the space used for System Restore to no more than 1Gb. This will speed up your system quite a bit :clap

To be honest, I don't even use System Restore, I switch it off completely
