The garage is getting rather crowded and I'm starting to think about actually selling something as another project is looming. The bike that gets the least use (2,300 miles in 4 years :blast ) is my monolever.

It would be highly useful to get the views of the airhead collective on what it could be worth.

It was refurbed in 2008, including:
Engine worked on by Scriminger, including a replacement barrel and unleaded head conversion, and new timing chain & tensioner
Gearbox rebuilt by same, including new 5th gear
Frame, airbox, rear subframe, fork sliders, swing arm, centre stand and handlebars powder-coated
New wiring loom
Carbs rebuilt with new jets and seals
New cables
New engine protection bars and side stand
Wheels rebuilt by Devon Rim with new rims and spokes and front wheel bearings
Fork legs re-chromed
Loads of new stainless fastenings and fittings, including new battery tray & under-seat box, new engine mounting bars, etc, etc.

It has also had since the pic above was taken:
New stainless disk
Brake caliper rebuilt by Motoscot
Lowered pegs from Migsel
Seat recovered
New throttle cam gear, cover and twist grip
New National Cycles screen
Fork brace

It's got a year's MOT (as of yesterday) and 6 months tax. It also has a fancy Maxton shock. A pair of original, lockable BMW panniers have been fitted since the pic above.

The not-so-good stuff:
- I don't know the exact mileage. It had a nearly-new speedo and instrument binnacle when I bought it. Steve Scriminger said it had the original factory timing chain tensioner before he changed it and looking at the wear estimated it had 50-60k miles on it, but that's obviously a rough guess.
- It's not concours - I rebuilt it to ride it and add/tart bits up as the years roll by. The next job would be the mudguards, as both are serviceable but looking tatty.

Sooooo, what do you think? Got any rough ideas what I could fetch for it? I'm kinda thinking:
A) Less than £2.5k - not worth selling the old girl, keep it for now. Go down to Crapaud's and smell of wee for a bit longer.
B) Between £2.5k and £3k - hmmmmmm, maybe stick it on the market and see what happens.
C) Over £3k - Definitely sell it.

You can't sell her till after WeeKend....:)
Prob got a better chance of a good valuation there as well. :comfort
BUT I will warn you, if you do sell, Five years on and you will be kicking yourself all around England ..:augie

After reading your information, I'm thinking an end price of £2800-£2900 (start price of £3200 maybe). However looking again at the picture I'm persuaded to say an end price of £2500-£2700 (start at £2800).

Still at the higher end of your thoughts, but I do think the old git above has a very good point. :nenau

You have a good month or so to think about it, cos you'll need to bring it to the WeeKend so we can give it a propper look over and you never know some of us might have won the lottery by then :D

Sounds like a plan!

Thanks for the advice Val :thumb2 That's just the sort of thought process I was hoping for :bow

If Johnny B's willing to pay £2500 you know it's worth considerably more and will be straight on ebay with a high reserve :augie

I was looking fo Bakerlonglegs original thread on when he got the old girl....
Lot of work and not over restored, in a word >>
PERFECT

Perhaps Kenny can find the original thread on the bike :thumb2

Oz prices dont count, but they may be a guide to the way things are heading over there.

And your bike appears to be very much better than a bike I have ridden that my mate Boxer-Ron sold on Oz ebay at the weekend for $7,600-, around GBP 4.200-.

Given that I paid $4,500- for mine 18 months ago and the vender was happy to deliver it 450 km, and fling in a box of service bits and a pair if tires , it appears that the market has almost doubled in less than two years.

The origonal advice is correct - hold on to it if at all possible, but if not get a wordsmith to write you a heap of bull---t and put it on Ebay with a GBP 4,000 reserve - the bull---t seems to make a huge difference to to final outcome----.

BB I was going to ask you whether you knew that SA G/SPD but then I reminded myself that I am aiming for less bikes, not more :D Price was a bit less than I thought it may have gone for but I reckon that there has been a softening of the GS market in the last 6 months mainly due to more being available.

Will put my efforts into to tidying up my $1400 R80G/SPD :D

As an interesting aside I had a bloke ringing me constantly wanting to buy my R100GSPD, eventually I told him to come and ride it and we'd talk. He discovered that "the taste is never as good as the smell" and his romantic notions of airhead ownership were dashed. Apparently it lacked in some areas compared to his R1200GSA. eg power, brakes etc. Haven't heard from him since

<COUGH>I might be, erm, 'revising' my price expectations.... :augie

That's a £500 shock absorber on the back. Much better than a flimsy Ohlins.

You might be supprised to know; the shock as fitted is unlikely to realise it's own value when sold with the bike.

I would be inklined to suggest you refit the OE shock (assuming you still have it, or you can lay your hands on one at a resonable price) and then sell the good one sepperately.

Val.

i think you'd sell it fairly easily for £3K, but i wouldn't.

i'd ride it more :)
