Whats the best comms kit when considering phone only use.

Option 1, use with existing Arai Quantum

Option 2, new helmet

Price is not the first consideration, sound quality and ease of use are more important.

Update

Are there no opinions or is it a ridiculous question?

Based on a minimum 4* Sharp rating with sun visor, flip front and Bluetooth I have narrowed it down to

X-lite 1002 & n com

Schuberth c3 & comms

BMW System 6 with comms

As fit is the most important factor and I've not owned any of these makes I think a trip to Brizzle maybe in order.

I previously fitted an Autocom system which we did not rate.

Used Autocom for years and loved it - then found Scala G4. I have had phone conversations at speeds over 100 (in Germany) with no problem and fits pretty well any lid.

Sena.... I use it for my work and its a brill bit of kit. Customers can call me whilst i'm riding at 80ish on the motorway and don't even realise i'm on the bike.

You can buy their new SMH5 for under £100 and nothing else will touch it for quality and features at that money.

SMH 5 ordered from ultimate Bike gear as I have had a recommendation that thy give good service and technical assistance.

Could you (or someone else) tell me a bit more about the Sena SMH5? We've always had Autocom but would like to go wireless. I always thought one of the shortcomings of Bluetooth was that it only paired with one device. From Sena's website, it would appear that this little piece of kit offers practically everything that our Autocom unit does, at a fraction of the price. Does Autocom offer any significant advantage these days?

Sena SMH5

Mike at Ultimate Bike Gear advised that for me who I am only interested in pillion to rider comms plus connectivity to Satnav and IPhone the cheaper smaller SMH5 will be great. If I wanted to do bike 2 bike then the SMH 10 would be better.

I also know that the Sena unit will work with Macs for software upgrades, others may do as well.

All this for < £100

Another question on the SMH5 ( having just taken back an interphone F5 kit ) I won't be communicating with other bikes, and I can't see a radio receiver being of sufficient quality to work properly.... so I think the 5 would do us ( if it works how I'd like it to)

If I'm listening to music from the Zumo as we're riding along, and I want to speak to SWMBO do I just speak , and it over rides the music?

Is it a case of pairing it up once, and then everything works when you next go for a ride?

If I'm listening to voice prompts from the Zumo 660 can I also listen to music streaming from the Zumo?

Was going to go back to Autocom... but I would like to give the Sena a go , but running out of time before the next trip ;)

Thanks in advance

Bryn, you are after the exact same thing as I want, and had with my autocom, that is music and sat nav instructions whilst being able to talk to the mrs,now all I seem to have is a system which will do one thing at a time.

If I've read your posts right you've had a bad experience with an Interphone F5 like me ?

It nearly made me sling the lot in the bin :rob

Now looking at the Sena SMH 5 ... all the reivews seem to say it will do what I want it to, which is indeed the same as you want :thumb

Comments welcome :beerjug:

I'm off down to Costa's for a coffee........

Yes,went from a wired Autocom, coupled to a car sat nav, worked sweet and we could listen to music on it.The only down side being plugging the cables to our helmets. That's why I thought the f5 would be a forward step,it's actually been, one step forward and two back.I have spoke to Sam at Chainspeed ,which is where I bought it from and he says the F5 should work ok with a dedicated bike sat nav.I don't know if I could actually get a refund as the units are not actually faulty, they just don't work in the way I thought they would.Should have done more research:blast
