If I hose mine off IMMEDIately (!) I just get clouds of steam - which cannot be good. Am I too enthusiastic??

always wash the salt off with cold water....hot or warm water activates the salt quicker...then you get pitting on your bits and pieces.....
wash the bike and cover it in wd40 (but not the discs ...like mr matron did by accident last year......good job i live in a sleepy village with hardly any cars about)
then run the bike until the engine is steaming and you can smell the wd40 ...always works for me and mr matron ...and he's obsessive about his bikes being clean.....

I've used Scottoil 365 for about 18 months now and I think it's pretty good. I've applied it after washing the bike(s) and, occasionally, after riding. I've got used to the smell of it as the engine heats up!
But always in the market for good ideas, I'm interested in this ACF 50 stuff. However, I've followed the weblinks to the manufacturer's site and find these two statements:
"ACF-50 can be easily removed with MEK or soap and water"
"It lasts for 24 months"
How can that be? Are we recommended not to wash the bikes for two years?
Any thoughts?

For the WD40 advocates.....
Try the Muc-Off bike spray (above). It's not much more expensive and unlike WD40 it doesn't attract the dirt.
It does wash off after a few washes with shampoo but it is easily re-applied. For the awkward areas trying to avoid discs etc, just spray it onto a rag and wipe the fork legs and wheel rims. Same result as spraying.
The biggest advantage over WD40 is that you can just hose off the salt and road muck without a full-on wash about half a dozen times. I suppose it's the PTFE in the spray that stopps the muck sticking but I'm no chemist (or whatever!).
P.S. If you spray it on while the bike is still wet, it chases water out of the crooks and nannies, especially under the tank!

well i washed the bike with car shampoo followed by muc off for the mucky bits then applied the scotoil 365 - started the engine and was amused by my neighbours thinking the bike was about to blow up due to all the smoke....
Interesting point about the ACF 50 being easily removed by washing yet stays on for two years...one thought is that because it's developed for the Aircraft industry - they don't wash the planes that often so it's going to stay on a lot longer...

The washing off has to be pretty vigorous and deliberately aimed to remove the ACF 50 ordinary shampooing won't have any effect. This product is highly rated in the marine industry and how much water do they get
And before anyone asks: NO I don't have any connection to them we just happen to use it where I work

Managed to get some ACF50 from M&P so I'll give it a go his week. I got the last can they had as it's been 'Selling like hot cakes' apparently.

I use Mr Sheen on my plastics works a treat, got plenty of it as former SWMBO used to buy it by the truck load

swear by the scottoil 365 spray...have similar "looks like new" story to the GSX one above. It is astonishing..mixes a corrosion preventative (specially formulated to react with the salt) with a wax and is water based so can be washed off to bring the bike back to pristine showroom condition. Tried all the rest and find that WD40 is not so effective, also bike seems to lose its fresh feel. Best of all the 365 makes the bike smell like a metal workshop. I am amazed everyone doesn't use it..

I treated the bike with ACF50 yesterday, having thoroughly cleaned it with 'Muc off' bike cleaner and many gallons of water. The ACF50 fluid has a pinky look and feels more oily and thicker than the other sprays I've used, 'Scotoiler' etc. I used the whole can, which was probably far too much looking at the pool underneath the bike, then wiped the bike over with a rag being careful not to wipe off too much. It doesn't dry off, but leaves oily coating. I'll refrain from my usual overly excessive cleaning campaign and just wash it with a hose with brushy thing and see how it goes.
