(a) I'm a natural born doubting thomas and treat everything I read on the Interweb with suspicion LOL
(b) I'm good at adding 2 & 2 and coming up with 5 .......CC at rear of bike, no electrical connectors, connector in quuestion at front of bike = can't be associated
(c) ......didn't read the thread closely enough and missed the references to the ECV
Hi David - The CAN bus is just a pair of wires that connect the computers together; it stands for Controller Area Network. It doesn't control things like lights and sockets (as many think). Control of these is done by the likes of the ZFE unit and BMS K. The plug under discussion controls the Purge Valve of the venting system (American Market).
If get your hands on a wiring diagram you will see that it is an output from the BMS K unit. Pre '08 model year this was on the LH side frame. Since '08 it is at the RH side front. The GS has a space under the tank in this area to accommodate the canister while the GSA has a cutout in the tank for the same purpose
Thanks Bill... that all makes sense...I've actaully got a background in electronics and computers and I just don't like to see a spare plug without somethig conencted to it! You feel like you're being ripped off and missing out on something! ...just curiosity now trying track down some info which is elusive so far. Maybe I can use this plug for good instead of evil (before I start a mountian of replies... this is an attempt at humour)
I know this has been discussed before but I can't find the definitive answer after searching the forum for some time.
What's this connector for (the one behind the GPS socket)...
The cable is probably on the wrong side of the bike for what I am about to suggest but could it be a redundant connector for power for spot/fog lights? The fuse box for the fogs was moved from the front of the bike to a panel on the LHS of the bike on (possibly late '08) 09 bikes. I'm probably talking shite. Just an idea that came to mind.
Thanks but it's the other connector being referred to ... there are two connectors in the photo ... the one that is closest to the camera and hanging a down a bit lower is the CANBUS connector that you can connect a GPS/SATNAV to .... it's the other connector that is still a mystery and we're trying to track down a definitive answer... it has two pins... I've seen some suggestions it is a diagnostics connector but I don't think that is correct. cheers
This is quite significant, since my local dealer told me the wrong one was for the GPS and of course it doesn't work. Having read this post I have today been sucessful in locating power by using the plug shown (closer to the camera) residing behind the oil cooler not the one with the strange looking spring clip.
Interestingly this is not made clear in another post detailing how to connnect power for GPS. (Which is the other reason I got it wrong first time round).
FYI my GS is an '08 model.
