What's this for?

While having a fiddle (with the bike) in the garage the other day, I found this o-ring wrapped around the bracket in front of the battery.
Any suggestions (stupid or sensible) as to what it's for

its for holding the owners manual initially, but I'm using it to hold an autocom and as a brace for the tank-bag

Oh yeh! Its a spare rubber band just in case the original perishes, do not overwind as the performance gained is minimal compared to the time it takes to replace

You'll probably find it was on the optional extras list, you just missed it when ordering

I was told when I bought the bike it was to hold the straight part of a D-lock. The curved part fitting under the rear seat, held in place by form in the tool kit tray.
However I know this to be incorrect (although possible I'm sure) and is actually for the hand book, as Shep says.

On mine it now holds the autocom.

Didnt have one on mine either so I asked my dealer were it was and was told by the service chap that they always throw them away as its easier to put the seat on without them, what a load of f***ing Bollocks. He asked me to come back in a week as they were having a new 1200 delivered and I could have the one off that, so I went back got it.

What a quality dealer you have there! I wonder what else they throw away at service time to make the job go smoother... one spark plug per cylinder maybe? After all you only need one.

Excellent, just seen the 1st part of this weeks episode, they've just had the X5 full serviced and it isnt running properly, left me wondering what that service chap left out after the service to make his own life easier
