Whats this tank off of then? 1100 or 1150

Richie
I dunno mate but the front on pic looks wide at the top to me for and 1100....but I may be wrong.
The part Nr for the 1100 Tank is 16 11 2 324 870 - maybe someone can confirm if this is the same part number for the 1150 tank in which case you know it's OK for either machine. Failing that maybe ask the seller to take a look and see if that part number appears anywhere on the tank. Most of the B#W parts are numbered.
Good luck
Gecko

OK Gecko, the tank is already mine. Its just sitting in my m8 celler in Yorkshire. I'll ask him if there is a part number on it. By the way I got it so cheap I took the risk, I know anyhow if it is no good I'll be able to get my money back from someone here who needs it.

might be off a bog standard R -- hard to tell from the pics

Hi Richie,

from my recent investigations, all of the standard capacity metal tanks are the same. As in the 1100, 1150 and 1150 adv all use the same part number in primer. I presume taht you wanted to know if it fits.

Just had a PM of Big lad. By the way your PM is full so I could not reply.

But it goes like this, Richie did you find out about the tank, can I fit an 1150 tank on a 1100.

As far as I know you can't coz it does not line up with the beak joiner silvery things. There have been photos on this forum showing the messy join. Rob reckons you can by the way.

I am not saying he is wrong and I am right as I have never done it.

What I initialy asked is can an 1100 metal tank be fitted on to an 1100 which previously had a plastic one. And the answer I got was that it would but I would have to buy new black rubber joints between the tank and the silver bits to the beak.

I suppose this has confused everybody even more, but hey I know what I mean and thats already a start!

your big tank!!

if you find out that you have no need or don't want the tank,if it fits an 1100 i'll take it off your hands for the right dollars

the only thing is i want to do the same as you ,change plastic to metal.

Yes, that's correct. If you have a plastic tank fitted, you will have to fit some new silver 'pods' suitable for the later metal tank, but then the metal tank is a straight fit. I will shortly have a Kalahari Yellow tank up for grabs if anyone wants it.

as a bye the bye.............I checked all the details with Motorworks, who confirmed it, and I will be fitting a plastic tank to mine :-)

Regards

robin

I don't want to change plastic for metal. I like my plastic tank but I don't want to respray it. So I bought another one to be able to spray it instead. I hope its an 1100 tank. If you want it you can straight swap it for your plastic one. I don't care what colour it is as it'll be Kalahari by the time I've finished with it... It is in Yorkshire by the way...

Yep 1100/1150 steel tank. Obvious innit?

You had Diks old plastic tank didn't you Richie? A dark metallic blue plastic tank, you wouldn't have known it was his because the bike was written off. I've got the matching Touratech sidepanels for it. He rode into a tunnel in the Alps and there was a hunting dog running loose, it fetched all three bikes off...just a small piece of waffle for you.

Thanks Guzzler, but how do you know?

I've futz'd around with my tank enough to know what one looks like just by glancing at it. Heck, I probably could tell you blindfolded and just touching it.

See my notes on BMW R1150GS Fuel Tank Modification Doing this mod, I became well aquainted with the tank :P

Guzzler, I bow to your obvious expert knowledge, I had a look at your page on the cross pipe by the way.
Can you tell me, will it fit my 1100 without having to remodel everything? I know you're wondering why don't I just try it, the answer is simple my second tank is 650KM and one boat ride away. If it won't fit I'll sell it from where it is.

To be honest... I don't know if it will fit on an 1100  I know an Adventure tank will fit on a standard R1150GS :D

Browse over to the Adventure Rider board, I think someone may have asked that question before. If not, post the question. Lot's of knowledgable lunitics over there.
