Strange oily stains have appeared on the right hand side of my 03 1150 ad engine. I’ve included a picture of them. Nothing leaking on the floor and I can’t see anything dripping or leaking.
Anything to worry about or is it just me been neurotic again? :chewstick

One of your fuel lines is loose, probably the high pressure feed as opposed to the return.

BM sell a spray paint that is the EXACT match of the silver paint on the engine and it will cover the stains and make it like new. Used it on my 11 on the gearbox cover and cooling fins. Fantastic stuff that lasts too.

Could this cause the bike to stall at random times?

So its just a case of lifing off the tank and checking the fuel lines?

It's certainly a known problem on 02 Advs. There was a BMW recall to have the fuel line connectors tightened.
The offending connectors are on the RHS of the bike - no need to take off tank.
The quick release couplings have 'o' rings which perish a little too easily aswell.
You might be able to see where the leak is.
Wash the stains off ASAP, they're notorious to get rid of.

One of my fuel lines started pissing on the way home the other day, it has left stain as your picture, it also started pealing the paint back at the housing joint. So I`d suggest fixing asap.

Fuel line leak. Will only be apparent when running. Start bike up and look for leak. If same as mine will be gushing. Warranty job - but not good enough BMW.

I had a look today. Nothing was apparent when I first looked. So I started up the engine. The bottom pipe started to be covered in a very very fine spray of petrol. I couldnt see it leaking but it was around that pipe. How do I tighten it or should I take it to the dealer? :cockeye

2 minute to tighten up - how many hours driving and waiting at the dealers

___ go figure

Doesn't matter....those clips were supposed to be checked and crimped up in a recall ages ago.....it's a ten minute job max to check them all and replace or crimp them up.

Take it to a dealer, then ask them to check the recalls against your VIN number.....everything that should have been done will be registered and I bet you'll find that for some reason these crimp fittings haven't.

They should also replace ther stained parts if that's the case.

Good luck :thumb

Bin the clips and replace with some stainless jubilee type clips (halfords etc). They can be removed with the careful use of a small screwdriver and the jubilees opened up fully and fitted so no need to remove the hose. Worked for me.

All fixed now. Took the bike to Allan Jefferies and they sorted it in 10 minutes. Repalced with new clips that use a screw tighten up
