Right, so we're coming back from Squires (Ace cafe to those daan saaf), and we're chugging along at a steady pace. Oil light comes on (red) and then cuts out. :blast

Cutting a long (long 7 hour +!) story short, it was low/out of oil. Have stuck in semi-synth 10w40 and tried to start it.

The good bit - it starts.
The bad bit - it cuts out at any twist of the throttle.

So, any ideas?

Hi Chris

Try www.f650.co.uk - the problem sounds familiar from when I used to frequent the site (i've had two 650gss for my sins) but I can't remember what the solution was as I never had the problem myself.

Right ok, I think that because the alarm has drained the battery flat, that the throttle position sensor needs resetting. Shame is, while my manual tells me this, it doesnt tell me how to reset.

Any clues?

spill the beans then :D

I think there is a procedure you have to follow to reset the sensor, i looked for it earlier but couldn't find it :nenau

Well, not much to tell really.

Poured over tinterweb for TPS resetting, found something that sounded a bit of a long shot (turn on, rotate throttle from off to 100% to off "slowly". turn off. turn on. start up).

This caused the bike to be able to rev, but again the bike cut out after a few seconds.

Putting my thinking cap on again, I decided to start whipping off the plastics, trying to find something that could look a bit iffy (oil leaks etc). Popped the battery back on to charge.

As I was doing this, I kept hearing a faint clicking sound from around the clocks, and the rev needle was flutting just off 0. Odd, I thought...so as I continued to strip, saw that the battery connections were loose. Tightened up, et voila.

Quick start up, few chugs on the throttle, and let it settle for a bit.

No problems.

We're off for a bimble around the block to see how it gets on and to see if problem is solved.

:clap

Should have asked the 'Oracle'

or the '911' dongle from Hex.....:D
alternatively
Ignition to ON
Open throttle slowly to max
Release slowly to stop
repeat 3 times
Turn ignition to Off
wait a sec, turn ig.on and fire up.

of course you do regularly check your oil level don't you? :mmmm :augie
