what's your mpg after update

I was interested in this question as I noticed in MCN (More Crap than News) that they said the 1200 adv AVERAGED 31mpg. That ssounds total crap to me.
I would be interested in what real world mpg people have got?

Well, my 1200 GSA 07 returned 47mpg average on completion of a 4000 mile Scandinavian tour to Nordkapp at the most northernly point of Europe, with my wife pillion passenger, fully laden with 82 litres of aluminium pannier cases, BMW GS tank bag, 60 litre Ortileb luggage roll bag and additional 40 litre luggage roll. We cruised between 50 and 90mph most of the time, occasionally hitting a ton plus. I don't know about an 08 model but am very happy with my bike.

'08 GSA Averaged 48.5 mpg over 5,000 miles, have not yet had the software update. Mixture of "A" road, Motorway and town riding.

More importantly ! How does the update effect the performance?

My 08 ADV averages 40mpg flat, that's with all the luggage on and riding like my hair's on fire.
If I actually stripped off unnecessary luggage and rode "sensibly" I suspect I could achieve actual fuel economy.

mine is doing about 47 which is a bit of a disapointment, I had read that 1200's were better tahn 1150s which is why they have a smaller tank.

57mpg 1150 twin spark
55mpg 1150 single spark

these are averages for whole life of bike.

can only think lower 1200 gearing is at fault as I ride the same and bike is lighter.

08 GSA with top box 48 Mpg, But did a 290 ride last week and rode it hard down to 45.5 mpg.

Mr Contrary here. Since the software upgrade my fuel consumption seems to have improved about 4 miles per gallon. Filled up this morning on the way to work. 180 miles on the tripmeter, 15.48 litres = 3.40 gallons, gives a somewhat surprising 52.9 mpg. But we do now have warmer weather. Don't know if that affects things or not.

got me all crazy...................Ain't 3.8lts= to 1 gal??

180 miles divided by 4.07 gals = 44.22 mpg's...right???

Or do your gallons measure differently to our gallons...?

Anyway,when I had my 1200GS 42-44 mpg's was average.
On my 1200GS Adventure 41-43 mpg's seem to be average.

Fuel mileage has gone crazy since the 12000 mile service last September. I used to get between 57 and 60 mpg but am now doing well to get 56, with a low of 52. The bike runs much better, with less vibration (noticed by Mrs Bear on the pillion) so whether this is down to a richer mixture or very carefull setting up is open to question. Losing between 4 and 8 mpg means losing 16 to 32 miles per tank, and the tank isn't very big.

After having an 6k and yearly service my 07 GSA bike returns around 400miles pottering about town with the occasional 15mile motorway run from a full tank. And it returns around 280-300 miles on a motorway run at 70-100miles per hour with full Givi luggage, I presume all updates were done at the service it seems a decent return to me.

Yes, and don't do what I've just done: use a mobile phone convertor. Got a shock after assessing the mpg on my new (to me, 06). 38 mpg - ouch! Got home and checked on a website 'litres to IMPERIAL gallons'. That's better - 46.5. It appears mobile phone convertors use US gallons. It's still not as good as my old 1150 which, as another said, was a bit of a surprise.

19.36 litres 208 miles 48 mpg.

Early days

Just had the 600 mile service on the new GSA. Variety of riding - town, motorway and country roads.

Before service a very consistent 48mpg. After service 50mpg.

Hey folks-

Newbie here in the USA. Just picked up a 2007 GS with 320 miles on it two weeks ago! It now has 1,320 miles, so I really like it!

One thing- I'm not getting very good mileage I don't think- around 36 to 42 mpg on the freeway. I have a 2006 K1200GT that routinely gets 45 mpg...

You folks state that a recent software upgrade might have changed things- what update is current and which do you have so I can compare my GS911 readout...

Mine used to be really low before the update, don't know if this is anything to do with my riding style? Seems to have improved since those cool engineers at BMW updated it

If you are quoting US mpg then you are actually getting about 43 to 50 which I believe compares with figures that have been quoted on here.

If you have already converted then that sounds a tad low

Reset my av. mpg counter last weekend & did lots of motorway miles (60-100mph) = av. 51 mpg.

Not had my 6k service yet which I assume will include the software update.

Last Saturday,I asked the BMW factory/dealer wrench about this *UpDate* thingy and he responded that it all depends on your VIN # as to whether or not the UpDate is required.........

GS1200 MPG

I have had mine from new, 6 weeks ago, now covered 4k miles and averaging 60mpg. Most of my travel is commuting on motorways where I tend to sit at 70 which is 4k rpm in top. That is until the farking thing packed up yesterday with the dreaded EWS!! I love the bike but in 40 plus years of riding, including Nortons and original Triumphs the latter day Beemers are the most unreliable bikes I have owned.
