I’m currently in the process of setting up the fuel gauge function on my Garmin Zumo 660. I don’t trust the fuel guage on my 2010 adventure so I’m greatly appreciative of getting some of your tank ranges so to work out an average tank range..

Much appreciated

Only in the 1200 section :blast

Everyone will have a different figure ... just ride your bike the way you ride it, set your trip each tank up, see how much you put in, work out how much you will have left ... and take it from there :thumb

Perhaps a dipstick might be the answer ;)

Yeah but, the distance to go says .... :comfort

You need to be careful with this and get a safe figure not what joe blogs gets. For example I have made it to 400 miles and still had fuel left but I have also ran out of fuel at 280 miles. Same driver (me), same bike and same holiday. How your driving on that tank of fuel will vary the MPG wildly. Apart from that why use a gadget when your bike has two trip meters.

Fill up, put 5 lts in can, strap can to bike or put in in panniers or top box, set trip, ride till you run out, read trip, remember what it says or write down, that's your mileage, undo pannier, screw off top, pour fuel in to bike, ride to petrol station to fill up again, and remember to find a petrol station soon. This will all change if you don't ride like everyone else does, so just in case you're not sure about which gears to use or how high to rev the bike, please see post " so many daft questions" :comfort

Whats your tank range

We dont have one up here, but I believe there is one down Bakermans way.
They go and play on it sometimes.

Feck me, Svenski, between your question on seemingly every pass in the alps and this you are getting your money's worth.

Question one

Useage. Blat from A to B to C and use more. Tootle from A to B to C, use less.

Question two

What makes you trust the gamin fuel range calculator more?

Answer (or someone will moan).

Fuel consumption per 100 km at constant 90 km/h 4.6 l
Fuel consumption per 100 km at constant 120 km/h 6.1 l

Usable tank volume 33.0 l
Reserve approx. 4.0 l

Go do the math, as they might say

PS Data Googled from BuMW Motorrad website.

PPS A rough and ready rule of thumb for most bikes is 10 miles per litre, a mixture of imperial and metric units, i know, but it's easy to remember if nothing else.

Please be more specific....depends on what you mean by average....

noun
the price is above the national average mean, median, mode; norm, standard, rule, par.
adjective
1 the average temperature in May mean, median, modal.
2 a woman of average height ordinary, standard, normal, typical, regular. See note at normal .
3 a very average director mediocre, second-rate, undistinguished, ordinary, middle-of-the-road, unexceptional, unexciting, unremarkable, unmemorable, indifferent, pedestrian, lackluster, forgettable, amateurish; informal OK, so-so, ' comme ci, comme ça,' fair-to-middling, no great shakes, underwhelming, plain-vanilla. antonym outstanding, exceptional.

Never mind :comfort

"Feck me, Svenski, between your question on seemingly every pass in the alps and this you are getting your money's worth" Your going to the alps............OMG!

My fuel gauge failed on my 08 GSA so I set my zumo 660 to 300 miles, worked fine, I was getting about 340 on a single full tank

Fuel gauge is now fixed (magnetic strip) but ive still left it to 300 miles as i also don't trust the cheap skate BMW crap magnetic strip... The bike fuel gauge is saying my current trip is about 360, but like I said I don't trust it...

I suppose you could set it to 320 and take some spare fuel just in case u do run out to test it... lol

I know 300 works for me though :thumb

What's the best strap to secure the 5lt can

I’m amazed with how many people are so helpful..

I simply asked for the range that fellow GSA owners are getting so I could work out what the average..

Not much to ask.. I’ve checked the forum and the majority of posts are a mixture of mpg’s and standard GS tank range’s with a few mentions of GSA ranges..

Wapping thanks for the divined enlightenment, I see you are very informative and I only ask for helpful information with regards of personnel experience of the alps and the question I ask are only those that I‘m unable to find on the webif you haven’t noticed I’ve stuck links for the passes I could get toll prices on.

but many thanks :thumb

how much fuel goes in a 5ltr can?

where is the best place to buy fuel and what grade would fill it best :nenau

should the can be metal or plastic is there a legal approved type?

what about color, green or red recyclable or reused item if reused should and how do i clean it out :nenau

where do i strap it and how much will it weigh, will this affect the handling? should i adjust the rear shock does it need to be on the stand......

i could keep going but realized there is a infinite number of silly questions on every subject :blast

1. A fuel selling place, 91 Ron as it's cheap, and it fits in the hole!
2. Plastic with metal overlays, regarding legality, frig knows...
3. I like blue, but green is ok if you're color blind
4. No this is 3 questions or more, so strap on seat, either front or middle, it weighs alot, yes it will effect/affect the handling, rear shock screw to highest setting, side stand, that was easy...
5. Should I even be allowed to own a bike? :beerjug:

range

High of 360 miles (running in) low of 265 miles (late for a ferry) usually about 330 miles....reckon i'm getting mid to late 40's mpg most of the time.
