Have a mechanic doing a top-end rebuild for me andat the same time he is supposed to be rebuilding my wheels.Mentioned to him just to send to the "devon wheel company" but he said he could do it for a comparable price.
Now a week later he tells me he cant get the spokes out because of corrosion as would take too long and should buy new rims.On top of this he told me he has added 2 hrs labour on top of estimated labour even though he hasnt done what was agreed in the first place and told me i should be happy because he spent longer on job than he is billing me for.
Apart for smashing an iron bar over his head has anyone got any ideas where i should go from here.
have told him to stop work on wheels as i am trying to get hold of Doug at the devon wheel company.

I think some firm negotiation is required here, if it's not successful a little naming and shaming......................word of mouth and the internet can be very powerful tools. There are at least two Airhead specialists I know who would never do that and do a proper job at a proper price, neither are quite on your doorstep but what price getting it done properly.

One arrow in your quiver might be that he ought to have known about the corrosion issue, assuming that that is something that is common place. I thought I read a thread on ADV where the owner also had to drill out when changing spokes.

Good luck.

If they are GS spoked tubeless rims if he doent know they are hard to remove he wont be able to rebuild the either, so get them back ASAP before he buggers them up!

Thanks for your input guys......have now managed to get hold of Doug at the devon wheel company who has agreed to take the job on and after a heated discussion with the mechanic he has agreed to take the extra 2hrs labour charge off the final bill...........thank god its friday and hurry up 7.00pm as i need lots of wine lol.

the spokes are pain to get out but with some easing oil and patience along with a big hammer it can be done

sounds like a dogey mechanic to be honest

Hi

Just had my rear wheel rebuilt by Doug at Devon Rim. I tried for over 30mins to get 1 spoke out myself!!! Doug charged about £25 for taking the wheel apart - worth every penny!!!!

The wheel he rebuilt for me with stainless nipples and spoke are great so I thoroughly recommend his work
