Wheel rebuilding(may be a daft question)

Has anyone ever,or is it possible,to rebuild a spoked wheel by replacing one or two spokes at a time rather than stripping the whole wheel.

The wheels on my 1100 are not to bad but the chrome plated spokes are no longer chrome plated,I wondered if it was possible to rebuild as described above or will the wheels end up out of true ?

The trouble will be getting each spoke out of the rim/hub if they're corroded

Takes a fair bit of effort, which may then render the wheel out of true

The spokes are stainless steel. They don't rust but they can slightly discolore. You can rub them off to bring the original shine back. Water and soapy pad.

I bought half a dozen for each wheel. They have different lengths for front and rear. When you change one, tighten it back and hit it with a screwdriver. Torque it more until it rings to the same tone as nearby spokes. That means it will have the proper tension. Like a piano...

The spokes on my 1100 are chrome plated too and I'm having the same issue as wrinkleyowlie with the chrome flaking off and the spokes rusting.

Unfortunately my hubs are flaking too and the rims are corroding so eventually it will be a complete refurb for both wheels.

I'll be interested to see what you do and how it works out.

You're right topcat the spokes are chrome plated.

I haven't decided what to do yet,a complete refurb would be my preffered choice but I'd set aside around £700 to put into the bike which I'm afraid is not going to be enough to do the wheels as well as everything else.

Maybe I'll do a couple of thousand miles this summer and decide then whether to just run the bike or do a complete refurb of the whole bike and just swallow the fact that I have a mint 1100gs but it's never going to be worth the money spent on it.

I do like the idea of a mint 1100.
