so, apart from the usual headstock damage, are there any other risks (other than binning it!!) to worry about? Any issues clutching it up with a shaft drive?

not that I can, or do, just nosey and thought I'd ask :angel

I do the odd wheelie my 1200. Nothing too rad. I guess it's not good for it, but it's fun.:D

There are some guys that never do wheelies on their bikes. My mate has a KLR and he's never done a wheelie on it.:(

I try the occasional one, but never had a shaft drive so wanted to know if I'm going to kill it!!

i know its not the same bike but i snapped a shaft :eek: whilst doing a wheelie on my old R100GS . Now im about 17 years the wiser and dont like spending £350 on shafts (it was a weak point of paralevers and the bike had done 40k to be fair). Just ease it up gently with the clutch a little id say:thumb

I get worried if I take out all the suspension sag from the front end :o

must confess I was amazed when i rode it for the first time yesterday, and snapping the throttle in first about 3k revs the front came up a bit, only foot or so, but I wasnt trynig just getting away sharpish to merge with traffic

I doubt one would ever come up high enough to be impressive

Never had any problems with the bike pulling the odd wheelie or doing the odd jump.

The only thing I've found when she's on the rear wheel is that she tends to want to steer to the right becasue of the shaft drive...

On my 08 GSA with ASC I doubt you would ever get it up beyound a foot as I believe the function of the ASC is to monitor the front and rear wheel rotation and as soon as the back spins more than the front the power is cut via the ECU and down she would crash. I suppose the off road setting might give you a bit more but again not as impresive as a jap pocket rocket.

Switch ASC off and it'll wheelie just fine ;)

Depends on how fast you're going when you lift off, I suspect - I've had a low-speed wheelie off the lights trigger it (dash lit up like a christmas tree and the nose dropped fast...) but a quick snap at higher speeds lifted without triggering. Although I didn't try to hold it, it has to be said.

As stated elsewhere, turn ASC off and it'll go up just fine, even with big wodges of luggage. :D I've not been dumb enough to try it with a pillion on, though. :augie

My HP2 used to come up no problems off the throttle in first and second of you timed it right (or wrong!) Personally I try to avoid them as it sometimes means getting off the gas to make forward progress.

The 450X comes up nicely as well :thumb

Switching ASC Off

I know that the ABS can be switched off for off road work and that the ASC can be set for off road work which allows a little rear wheel drift. But turning it off all together???? Can this be done. :beerjug:

Press and hold the ABS button until the first symbol on dash appears then press and hold again until a different symbol appears. ASC is now turned off and it wheelies beautifully. I am told that it easily comes up off the power in 1st or 2nd and then you just change up through the box once you have found your balance point.:) to revert back to full ASC/ABS just press the same button again.
