Where can I get a connector for the power socket?

:popcorn:popcorn

PS When you come to fitting the socket to the fairing, you may find it is too deep. Don't worry, you can buy the same socket but right angled, with a nice plastic boot to keep the grot out.

You can buy the same boot for the non right angled version, too.

In fact buying the booted versions will save you worrying yourself about the whole damned waterproof connector.

Go to Powerlet's US page and you'll find them. Powerlet has several UK agents, so you'll source one in two minutes. Job done. Move on.

Deary me Mike, first you fail to explain your 'problem' then you decline advice given. Have you tried Motorworks, Motobins or James Sherlock? Have you tried a simple twin wire link to the battery with crimped connections? If you are worried about corrosion, simply smear some silicone sealant around the connectors, at least that will get you a functioning socket until the mystical connector is located.

Just use ordinary terminals. Cut a length of scrap bicycle inner tube. Use silicone sealer and cable ties to seal said piece of inner tube around wires and the back of the socket:nenau

It's worked on my 1150 for 20,000 miles including '000's of miles of dirt roads that left the bike looking like a mobile mud heap.

Oh dear oh dear, tetchy today are we?

Yes, perhaps I didn't explain the problem fully. And yes, I apologised and made a fuller explanation.
( apologies - I'm laid up in bed with brain trauma, so I'm not really firing on all cylinders)
And yes, I have suffered a number of people who haven't actually read the thread before coming up with a solution that says someone like " just wire it up". Hmm - I REALLY hadn't thought about doing that!

Yes, I've tried all those sources, and cannot find what I am looking for.
And no - it seems like you haven't actually read the thread either.
" twin wire link with crimped connections" - yes, that's what I am trying to achieve, but don't know where to get the connector that goes onto the back of the aux power socket - no one the the uk lists it. ( p.s., you forgot to say I need to put a fuse in!)

Use silicone sealant - I'd be very careful, as most silicone sealants give off acidic fumes when they cure ( you often get a vinegar smell when using silicone), and this acidic funding casues more corrosion if you aren't careful ( by which time, you've covered everything with silicone, so can't fix it!).

I have, for the moment, used the little connector with ring terminals that came with my charger, so I am ok for now, and I'm certainly not fit enough to ride my bike for a couple of months at least, so there's no danger there!

I have found the socket - I used the two US based sites to get the detail.
There are two variants available, depending on the vintage of the BMW power socket you have. The earlier ( pre-2007) sockets have a larger connector than the later ones. Repair wires are available, but ( according to the parts lists I have found) are as expensive as the splitter cable, and the splitter cable sports a pair of connectors.

I'll put up the part numbers when I get a chance.

Thanks for the help,

Mike.

Not tetchy just a little irritated that you are making a meal ovrr a simple job. Forget about ghe mysterious connector, just connect the back of the socket two pair of wires, then on to the battery. Who csres if silicone sealant gives off fumes. Don't inhale them. Should the sealant fail - it won't - there is a sealant 'dissolver' available which will remove it.

With what do I " just connect it" - that's what I've been asking...
Fortunately, I have the answer now.

Who cares if the sealant gives off fumes?
Please read what I wrote. Many sealants gives off acetic acid, that actually promotes corrosion in small connectors - wow that's a good idea - let's make sure that this fails further down the line...

Make a meal of it?

I may not - I'm just trying to find out if this connector is available, and where from.
I've had loads of idiotic "just connect it" types of answers from people who haven't read the thread, and are trying to answer a question that I didn't ask.

Thanks to searches of existing threads, I have been able to piece together what I need, and when I'm well enough to get it, I will.

Thanks for the "helpful advice".

Mike.

... And links to the two US websites, please.

On the contrary, the two plugs / sockets (when properly identified) may well prove useful for other punters.

The OP has done the hard work in tracking them down. The links will complete the picture.

As soon as I am 100% sure of my facts! I'll pop the part numbers and pics up here.
I'm back in work next week - hurray! I'm sick of daytime tv and sick of being ill.
My commute takes me close to Dick Lovatt in Bristol, so I'll go and have a chat with the parts people there...

Did you read post #20 - by me of course

and now you mention going to a BMW dealer

Yup,

In the absence of any useful info about this subject on here, I ended spending an equally fruitless hour at the parts desk at BMW trying to work it out.

They've ordered some bits in, so we can we what's what later today.
