Where have you put you autocom on 1150gs ? Just got one and where's a good place for it to live? Pictures would be good please :)

[Its a super Pro AVi don't know if the other models have different size boxes]

Here

It involved moving some of the connectors and the relays around, but it was fairly easy to create the space in the bottom LH corner of the fusebox, and then cut out the divider between 2 sections. However, if you've got ABS, you may not have as much space to play with as I did.

I got power from the bottom of the fusebox via the light feed, and the earth from the bottom of the starter relay. It's not the best earth in the world, but it seems to work fine for now.

BTBR did a post on another board about mounting an autoswitch in the fusebox, and there's a lot of good advice in there about using heat guns to soften the fusebox etc.

I think there's some advice on what live feed you use depending on the model of your 1150, IIRC, taking it from the tail lamp is not advised on Servo-ABS models because the circuit is used as part of the system test on start-up).

If there's room, velcro to the top of the air-box gives plenty of access.

I have an Adv and I used velcro to fix mine where the tool roll normally sits.

Live feed picked-up from the horn fuse.

I was going on GSRich's instructions here. I was under the impression that this was fine for 1150s, but not for 1200s, because the 1150s aren't blessed with canbus.

Mine is in the tool tray under the rear seat.

But I've been lucky in that I can then stuff the tools into the natty little container that sits 'in' the rear Sargent seat.

My live feed for everything has come from a plug under the tank. It's ignition fed.

Right then on the 1150's the main control unit is fitted under the tank by the side of the battery on the air box as there is plenty of room.

For the power the depending on the year of the bike, the early models have got 12v at the inline brake connector found on the right hand side of the bike under the riders seat. Black and green wire will be the live feed.

The later models only have 3.5v at the inline brake connector so this is where we take out the 4 screws holding to top of the fuse box in place and pull the loom through the frame. There will be thicker green and black wire within the loom which is a clean 12v power feed.

For the earth connections on any model we take out one of the 4mm alan key bolts that hold the riders seat bracket in place and use an crimped eyelet connector to make a good solid power join. You could go direct to the battery but it means lifting the tank which is a two man job :eek

So on the 1200's the main control unit is fitted in the plastic tool tray under the riders seat. DO NOT fit the units onto the metal rail on the petrol tan kas I am seeing a lot of faulty units due to a lot of water getting into the systems.

The live feed is taken to the green and red wire that feeds the power to the auxiliary power socket on the left handside of the frame under the riders seat. As the battery is nice and easy to get to the earth is connected directly to it, again we use a crimped eyelet connector.

I hope this helps peeps

Rich,

Thanks for the info, I'm almost tempted to suggest that this be made a sticky thread.

Do you have any photos of the locations and the connections, I'm sure it would be a great help to all of us.
