Sorry, I need to find the 12v cigarette lighter socket adaptor (the one with the long cable) somewhere in London.
Wasn't able to find it yesterday (hardware, electrical, car stores, etc.)
Need it by tomorrow eve and I have time to search for it only at lunch breaks today and tomorrow :blast

Shall I go directly to BMW Parklane, do they sell spares as well? (don't mind to pay it 10 quid this time since I'm a bit late now... my bad) or is there some othere place where I should look?

many thanks :)

I've got a spare bmw plug that you can wire up if that helps

Maplins sell the bits you need

Extension lead: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1056

Hella socket or adapter: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=hella&source=15

If necessary, take the standard plug from the extension lead and solder the Hella socket onto it.

Or you could extend this one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=226490
Note, the red bit should come off to convert it to a Hella type plug.

Of course, your local branch may not have these bits in stock...

plus most Maplin shops seem to be open to 7 or 8pm

Thanks to all ;)

the HELLA plug is the "smaller" cigarette plug in use on the BMW bikes right?
Not in stock anyay :(

Yes. Sometimes called a DIN socket.

Maplins list many of the parts in their "truckstore". This type of socket is also fitted to John Deere tractors. Have you tried a truck or agricultural supplier?

I got mine from Rocket Radio in Letchworth - bit of a trek from London but they have loads of stuff in stock for Hella sockets

Strangely enough I purchased the same thing at the weekend from our local (Cambridge) Maplin shop £9.99. Manufactured by Hama part no 00 045660. The lead is approx 220mm between the plug and socket, actually I could have done with a slightly longer one...but then couldn't we all! :augie
That may not be the part number they stock by so try this.
Adaptor from Standard Socket to Lighter Socket only £9.99 Order Code: A61FL

Nope. But I'm wearing a red/blue checkered shirt over a plain white t-shirt today. That makes me a potential John Deere customer :D

I went back to Maplin and I'm now the proud owner of an "Adaptor from Standard Socket to Lighter Socket".
I'll just make an extension to the cable tonight, so I can use the lower socket on my R1100S.

thank you guys ;)

If anyone else is struggling with this, most good motorway service stations sell (at their petrol pumps) a broad range of adaptors/extensions for DIN and cigarette lighter sockets. Even if they don't have exactly what you need, you can buy a couple of items and wire them together.

Look in the truckers section near the air hoses and steel toe boots!

I bought the bits to put a 2 x female DIN socket permanently in my tank bag for under a tenner.

I can confirm now. :augie :blast :D
Travelling back from Italy I damaged badly the TomTom plug (USB end) while in Switzerland. Looking for a replacement power cable (some UK petrol stations sell them) I stumbled upon tons of adaptors :D
